He passed a month ago, he worked all over the western US in the last 10 years and I don't know if he has any life insurance policies, possibly through employers, that are still in force that we can collect on? Even a small amount would help.

Check with his employer at the time of his death. You should also go through his checkbook, look at the statements for the past year, you're looking for payments to an insurance company; and go through his files, to see if there's a policy there.

Tips on how to find lost life insurance policies:

How to look for lost life insurance policies:
·Go through canceled checks or contact the insured's bank for copies of old checks. Look to see to whom checks were made out. You just may find an insurance company.
·Ask those who may have known about the insured's financial situation. Try their lawyer, banker or accountant. Also try their auto or home insurance agent. They may know where the insured went for life insurance.
·Contact the insured's past employer. An employer may know of possible group insurance. The insured may have also purchased supplemental insurance through work.
·Keep in mind that there is no national database of lost life insurance policies.
Also, if the insured dies and three to five years later you, the beneficiary, still can't find the policy. There's a chance -- though a slight one -- that you can go to the state, rather than the company, to get the money.

Please accept my sympathy in the loss of your father. I know of no way to find out if he had any life insurance policies other than just looking through his personal belongings.

As far as through an employer or a former employer I suggest you try to find copies of his old pay check stubs. They will show if any money was withheld for life insurance. And you may contact the former employer direct and just ask.

Take care and good luck

I suggest you check his bank records for a payment to an insurance company and contact his former employers.
