I have been trying to lose weight, and most of it is in my stomache. As an example, I have been asked more than a few times how far along I am. I want to know what I can do to target weight loss specifically in the stomache area.

Unfortuanatly, you can not target weight loss. Losing weight is like melting snow, it all comes off evenly, but bigger desposits (your tummy) take longer to "melt" simply because there is more built up. Crunches and situps will only build muscle UNDER the fat. You need to strip the fat away. The only way to do this is to burn more calories than you eat. SO, you should do 30-60 minutes of cardio(dancing, swimming, martial arts, fast walk/jog/run, ect...) and eat healthy, fruits, veggies, lean meat, whole grains

I'm in the same boat as you!! I read that women are just naturally predisposed to collecting their fat deposits in their lower abdomen, creating a "tummy," whereas guys tend to store their fat higher up, near their rib cage, making a Homer Simpson beer-gut thing. I also found out that while watching what you eat and doing exercises like crunches definitely help, 30 minutes of good solid cardio three times a week is the only thing that can really reduce your tummy fat, since you need to burn the fat in there to make it flatten out. Also, you might want to avoid salty foods and alcohol. I find that these things bloat me and make my tummy look twice as big, especially around "that time of the month."

people tend to have fat settle in the abdomen because of high levels of cortisol,(the stress hormone) which causes this phenomenon. Depending on your age in large part, your lack of DHEA could be part of the problem. (DHEA in the body is a direct antagonist of cortisol) Most women over 35 don't produce enough DHEA and should be taking supplements. I have taken it for three years and my tummy has gone down by five inches without even dieting. But have your doctor check your levels first (it's a simple blood test) because too much DHEA in the system can really mess up your hormonal balance. http://www.amazon.com/Stress-Cure-Balance-Improve-Restore/dp/0060198257
