One of the most effective things I've ever used for inappropriate scratching is a product called Sticky Paws. Works every time! It is a double sided tape they just HATE. My cats don't particularly scratch - they are trained from day one with cardboard scratching matts, scratching posts and a variety of cat trees two of which tower in my living room. But I had one cat I praised as a kitten for using the cat tree and the misguided thing thought that stretching out on the tree (or my woodwork) would gain my attention. She was right! I just put these things on the woodwork & it stopped in short order.

Oh, do I have the exact problem. Here's what we did and it helped a lot...we bought a baby gate and put it outside the door so that they can't scratch up the carpet. If you do this, I recommend a gate that has a latch and will open so that you don't have to step over it all the time/take it down everyday. Good luck!

Try keeping your animals for occupied by introducing new toys. Lock them in a room of their own with food, water, litter box, and plenty of fun toys and such.
Cats are creatures of the night, its in their blood to prowl and become more active.
Try this suggestion and see if you can get a better nights sleep.

They want to be with you. I would suggest either taking allergy medicine or close them into another room so they cant get to your door.
Also, If you find something that your cats like to sleep in put it in your room......like my cat LOVES boxes so I put a box in the room and when I go to bed at night........he will usually jump in the box and go to sleep.
You cats love you and while they are independent animals they still like to be around their owners.
Good luck.

My cats like doing this also. I bought a hanging scratcher and hung it on a different door so they can play with that. Otherwise...when they are really bad, I give them catnip and it seems to put them to sleep after a while... good luck!

I know this seems weird but it really does work....Put some aluminum foil over the door. My cat use to get up on my dresser and scratch it..I covered it with foil and it stopped...they hate the sound it makes when they scratch it.

You could use soft paws, aluminum foil at the door or maybe even just buying them a scratching post will stop them from doing it.

two suggestions... use a piece of cardboard over the bottom of your door or try a thick outside screen on the bottom... the card board is cheaper to do but will need to be replaced from time to time.. best wishes and good luck
