You are in a pickle. Shut down the program using your task manager (Ctrl Alt Del). Then restart it. You should get a recovered document which you then can save. It may not include all your most recent changes or additions, but it's the best you're going to do. Then set your automatic save feature to save what you're working on at least once a minute. And NEVER let pages of work build up before you save.

Well, the least you could do is copy the matter in a wordpad and try restarting word. Also try restarting the system. The tip given by the last responder is also valid.
However, if the problem happens even after you restart, try repairing the word application. To do this go to control panel, add/remove programs, highlight microsoft office and click on Change, select reinstall or repair option and then select detect and repair errors in my office installation. Please make sure you hve the original office installation disk before you start the process.

The best answer is, STOP USING WORD. This is the main reason I use Google Docs now, it saves automatically so if something ever happens its auto saved exactly where you left off.
