it didnt hurt at all after . ina root canal they take the nerves out of youre tooth . ask for the gas not the shots it will make it easyer on you

I've had 2 of them. Root canals are a 2 step process with all of the "dirty work" being done in the first sitting and then a return trip to have a permanent cap placed. The most uncomfortable part for me was the dental dam. It's a rubber device they put in your mouth to prevent you from swallowing tooth debris and the chemicals they use. This and the fact that you have to hold you mouth open wide for a fairly long time. You'll be given Novocaine so there isn't much pain at all - more like a slight pressure. In the end your tooth should actually feel better because they have deadened the nerve that was causing the pain in the first place. The only discomfort I had was my jaw being sore from holding my mouth open for so long but it wasn't bad at all. A couple of Advil or Tylenol should do the trick with any minor pain you have after. During a root canal the nerve roots are removed from the tooth so obviously the pain pathway to the tooth is gone. You can have some discomfort in the gum area for a few days after the root canal and the jaw can ache for a few days following the permanent filling but the tooth itself will be pain free.

Ihave to say .. the root canal was the fastest pain less procedure I have ever had. I dont know if it was the doctor or what.. But I was fine. It hurts worse to have the teeth pulled than a root canal. The whole thing last less than an hour.. but your pumped up with some good novicaine .. its almost relaxing... ALMOST>>> you will be fine.. I dont remember a whole lot of pain .. Afterwards

Personally I have had several, Whenever I get a couple cavities in one tooth instead of paying for several fillings I just automatically get a root canal and cap for the tooth that way the tooth will be totally painless and require no maintanance for a bout ten years, sorry the pain afterwards is very little because the nerves are gone theres nothing to hurt you;ll be happy with it I think.

I have had three root canals and its been a long time but the pain i had after it was complete was so much less than the pain before. it should only take a few days to heal in your mouth just the soreness from being cut and messed with but the mouth heals quickly. If it hurts inside you need to go back or find a better dentist you should not have pain. Your roots have been removed you should not feel inside.

Im a pro, i've had six root canals...thanks to British Dental Care (or lack there of) when I was young. If you NEED a root canal, you won't really care what it feels like afterwards, you will be so relieved it was done. Just make sure you follow the dentist's instructions, no hot liquids and get a nice strong perscription pain killer. You'll be fine.

I've had a few root canals, and no problem. There is no pain or discomfort afterwards. It's better than having a tooth pulled.
