One of my really good friends is having a baby shower this Saturday... and I have no clue what to get her. It's her first child, it's a boy. I have about $50 to work with and I want to get her something special. I can't do anything personalised or make her anything since I just don't have enough time before Saturday. I need some really good ideas. She hasn't registered anywhere.

you do have time to make a small diaper cake, its fun and easy and if you are interested e mail me and i will forward you the directions. The moms-to-be love this so MUCH. I would even make you one, lol. to make a small 2 tier it take maybe 30 min-to an hour. and the best part is the mom can use EVERYTHING its made out of.and its very personal!

How about a gift certificate for a pedicure for the new mom-to-be? I just had my baby 3 months ago today and that would have been something I would have absolutely loved to receive. I went ahead and decided to pamper myself and went for a pedicure a few days before I was scheduled for my c-section and it was wonderful. My ankles and feet were so swollen towards the end and it hurt so bad. The girl giving me the pedicure massaged them and actually got the swelling to go down a lot. I almost felt like I was walking on clouds when I left. It was also nice to have my toenails freshly painted since I wasn't able to reach them and do them myself while I was pregnant and for quite some time afterwards. You're friend will also really appreciate that someone is thinking of her too, since all of the attention is being focused on the baby now.

Anyways, my vote is for a pedicure for mom and then some little things for the baby. She will probably get more clothing than the baby will ever be able to wear, so things like Infants Tylenol, Mylicon, cloth diapers (for burp rags), etc. would be great. You could always try to find a special baby blanket too, but I ended up with tons of blankets for my baby. Books to read to baby are also a great idea - I didn't receive any and that's one thing that I would have liked to get. Things that I got more than enough of are clothes and stuffed animals. I have absolutely nowhere to put all of the stuffed animals I received and they keep coming.

Get the baby a few outfits, a stuffed animal, diapers, stuff along that sort... also get the mother something too! Like a trip to a day spa or something that will help her relax. So you're not only giving her new baby a gift but also her something as well, and I'm sure that she'll need it!

Pampers, wipes (never can have too many)
Diaper bag
bouncer
outfit

It will depend if you want to buy several small things to put in a gift bag or if you to just spend the $50 on something big. Something good could also be soemthing for the expecting mother as well as one for the baby.

I suggest you send her a card for one day of shoppiung with ehr friend after the babt shower to get a gift that she will need and does not have plus gives you a chance to spend some time out before the baby comes together good luck

I always get items that they will need 6 months to 1 year after the baby is born. It seems like every expecting mother receives tons of outfits, receiving blankets, and bottles that the newborn can use, but is left to purchase all of the older infant necessities herself.

So my advice is: sippy cups, larger infant clothes (6-12 months - be sure that it will be season appropriate), and other often overlooked necessities like bibs and socks, maybe a hat and mittens set for the coming cold months, etc.

Go to the bank and open a bank account for the baby and put the $50.00 in the account. Then put the bank book in the card it is a great gift because all parents open an account for a new child .

What I liked getting the best at my baby shower was when someone put together a huge basket for me with tons of little things that you can never get too much of like: diapers, wipes, lotion, bath wash, washcloths, just little things liked that. I loved getting stuff like that.

i am on a budget too. I always loved getting personalized gifts....once i got a small basket, you may have at home...and filled it with diapers wipes lotion, cotton balls, burp cloths, etc all the little things made it look expensive but it really was not. then i found clear cellophane and wrapped it up and then put bows and baby trinkets like scrap booking baby stickers on the clear wrap it's always a huge hit with little money.

Toys!!! A new mom usually gets alot of baby care items, like, blankets, bottles, outfits, etc. BUT baby needs toys and books and music from Day 1! Something that baby can look at in their crib/basinet and play with at tummy time. Brightly colored, different textures toys are important. Black and white designs are important for baby to look at. My three kids are VERY smart because I encouraged their intellectual development from day 1 . The tupperware Shape-o-Toy is a classic, always appreciated, and is very versitile. Keep that in mind for another time bcause it has to be ordered.
