It is up to the individual as to what you name your dog. If the dog is to be registered by the A.K.C. or the C.K.C. as long as the name has not been taken it is allowed. If you remember, the late Nicolle Simpson had named her dog, Kato. Kato was O.J. Simpson's friend. Try not to be offended by someone using a persons' name for their pet. Animal people love their pets and certainly do not do this to insult anyone and in fact usually it is merely because they like the name. That was not the case with the late Nicolle Simpson.

Where would you live that such a law would exist?

As long as the name has not got a copyright..ie. try calling it Barbie, dressing it in pink and putting it on TV and wait for the lawsuits.

My friends have a daughter named Kelly and a dog named Kelly...gets quite confusing, I understand. My sister has a cat with the same name as mine because the cat is lots of trouble.

why in the world would there be a law saying that you can't name your dog, or any other pet for that matter, whatever name you want! you might not want someone to name their pit bull after your sweet little girl, but there is nothing you can do about it!
silly person! are you a tree-hugger??? want to all kinds of clutter up the law books...
oi!

Sure!!! We have a "Maggie" named after a Great-Grandma who was dear to the family and our other pup is "Nazzy" named after one of my husbands favourite hockey players. Our cat is named after a City in Alberta "Jasper".

Freedom of speech and freedom of choice! That's what makes this world a beautiful place!
