When was the last time you checked your belts? One of them may be slipping.

Is it on long trips, after driving for a couple of hours? I had an Audi that after about 2 hours the trip computer made a chirp sound to remind you to stop and stretch. I do not know if your Jetta has that but check with the dealer.

Check your belts ... could be loose or you could need them to be lubed up. Also \check for cracks in the belt you may need to get another one put on

The front disc pads have a metal sensor on the to let you know if they are close to wearing out,to save your rotors.because they are not cheap.
