Tomorrow i'm going into hospital for operation on a dental abscess that wouldn't go away after multitudes of anti b's. Your dentist can only prescribe anti biotics of a medium strength. if they're not working within 48 hrs you need to see your GP for stronger ones. Go to your local hospital and sit it out til you see a Dr. if your GP won't see you ( which is mega crap). Don't leave it too long, can get very unwell due to infection. Good luck.

You should see improvement with antibiotics within 24 - 48 hours. For conditions that are contagious you are no longer contagious after 24 hours on antibiotics. However, in your case it sounds like you are taking the wrong antibiotic for your situation. I had a similar infection in a tooth and took 4 rounds of ampicillin before consulting an oral surgeon. He was appalled that I had not been given the right antibiotic for a dental infection. Considering your pain and the obvious need to ultimately have the tooth extracted I would suggest making an appointment with a surgeon, today to get that under control ASAP.

Maybe the pain is coming from the gum area of your tooth in which case you need something to treat that, your probably being given amoxicillin 250 they may even have tried 500mg, I think if it is in your gum you need an antibiotic called metranidazole.
You need to see a dentist, under the new NHS rules, any dentist should see you as an emergency within 24 hours.

Gargle with salt water about 6 times a day. It'll hurt like hell but will help clear infection. Keep taking pain killers and antibiotics. They usually take 2 to 3 days to start kicking in. Make you sure take them after food to help with the digestion of them.

Get well soon

They would start to slow things down in 24--48 hours and by 72 hours, you should see an improvement instead of a decline in your condition.

I hope everyone in the USA who reads these complaints about the NHS will realize that "National Health Care for Everyone" is NOT the way to do things.

I found this out 2 weeks ago, 1 to 2 days. Use Nurofen Plus as a painkiller, it's brilliant.
