Going from blonde to brown is never an easy task, you might want to try a level 7 haircolor with some golden brown to off set the ash. Just think of the first color you put on it as a filler .

OMG I feel so bad for you the same thing happen to me it turned grey I didnt even go to work the next day I went from blonde to dark and it turned grey but ill tell you why. What you have to do is buy a dark brown color with no ASH in it thats what made it turn grey you probably used dye with ash in it. Leave the dye on for 25-30 min and it should be just fine when you blow dry if its still some grey there repeat but there shouldnt be.

You need a brown that has red tones to cancel out the ashy gray color.

I went from dark blonde with gray streaks to light brown to blonde. Unless you want to really mess things up and go black [ha ha ha] go with lowlights. They hide the gray more, less damaging to your hair, and really blend in with a bad dye job to make you look "normal" again :) They are just the opposite of highlights. You can buy a do it yourself kit for $10 at any drugstore, and just pick a tone close to your haircolor and go for it - really easy to do, quick and doesn't drip!

I don't know but personally I'd go lighter. It goes better with your skin tone as you age. Dark brown or brown is harsh unless you are young...makes the face look "hard." You should aim for "soft."

OTC hair color is really advanced....you will need to read the directions and suggestions on the box and pick the brand that will give you the results you want.
I'm too scared to do my own hair so I have mine professionally done.

For the ash, you need to do something that hairdressers refer to as "filling", that means that you need to add a red to cancel out the green undertones(ash). The best advice I can give is to purchase a reddish-brown.
