I'm thinking of making my dining room, that is in the center of the house and goes unused for most of the year, a family room. Then turn an unused bedroom that is adjacent to the kitchen into the dining room. Just wondering the size of an average dining room? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated

Measure your dining room table length at the desired extension.

Make sure there is 2-3 feet around each side for chairs.

Add the china hutch into the mix.

If it fits, go for it.

Think outside of the box too. A table at an angle in a squarish room could work too.

Formal dining rooms should not have a door to them as a bedroom would. Also deminsions depend on the house size, but generally it is as large as the family room and living room, if not larger. In the end, it is your house, do whatever you want to make it your Home.

Really has to do with your table arrangement and the number of guest you would like to entertain at one time, picture a castle dinning area big, a cottage small, build the dining experience to fit your own preference, do not overdue, good luck

If you're gonna build a bathroom adjacent, first make sure that its not next to any eating facility. as the stench would become too unbearable for all the nice folks trying to eat whilst you or someone else takes a dump
