A deserter need not flee the country in order to avoid serving
in-country during a war/conflict. It appears to be just another cover-up that most of the general public is not buying. I find it deplorable that a person who unquestionable avoided Viet Nam by any means is serving as our country's leader. Willing to send our men to die in a war that no one could possible win but not having been willing himself in the past.

All of you are missing the point after Rather’s mistake one would think people would study the situation. Bush did not desert at least in the sense Rather and many of you claim which is what saved him. Do you remember Bills’ excuse after being caught with Monica? “I did not consider oral sex, sex!
Bush like countless of other rich or connected kids were allowed into Guard Air wings. During Nam unlike now in Iraqi we did not call many of them into service (could it have been because of political pressure from these rich and connected families not wanting their kids put at risk)? I was in the field when they found I was the nephew of a Congressman and lock stock and barrel I was out of the field. I went back because of virtue and integrity (ok because I was stupid).
Most Guard and reservist units used to be no where close to strength, they had second rate equipment and trained half assed. Now that these rich and connected kids are in the most part gone that is no longer the truth, they are real units and doing their duty.
Lost records, if they are lost, they lost them to prevent the truth from being known. I can show you detailed records for every service person in every conflict and peace time position, in our history. However, they are not going to prove what Rather and the Democrats wanted to happen. It is going to show a young smart ***, screwing around, carrying because he knows he runs into trouble he can call his dad. He runs around drinking and carrying on, is that desertion certainly not. Was it a Patriotic and brave act, certainly not?
Was Kerry? Hell, even if he did not earn all these Purple Hearts he went and risked his life. The military gives away medal like crazy. I always tell this story about a guy in our unit who was awarded a Purple Heart for shell fragments to his eye. Too bad, he was a cook. They handed them out we took them; I never looked at mine for thirty years.
What I can’t understand is how the Right and the Republicans can berate him for tossing his awards? Go read Robert McNamara book “IN RETROSPECT” he which he admits the administration to include the President knew the war was lost but yet we continued to send men. For what some the rich could bargain a better tomorrow for their companies.
God Bless You and the Southern People.

Of course bush deserted during Viet Nam, It's just that he is just to big of a pussYto ever go into war. Or maybe he was on vacation, yeah that's it he was on vacation. Oh and I know why someone would have gone to the trouble of scouring his records, it's because he paid someone to do it. wait he spends his money on crack, so he must of done it himself.

heritage has shown we were incorrect in how we dealt with Nam. not the defense force in spite of the indisputable fact that the politicians. in basic terms as we closed the doors on hatred of Japan and Germany it really is time to close the doors on what befell in Nam. It became their u . s . a . and the human beings contained in the south were corrupt, very reminiscent of what's happening in Iraq. maximum Viet Nam vets understood the topic matters were with us as a lot as them. warfare is not in any respect good yet often times it really is critical. Viet Nam became not justified and in a lot of eyes neither is Iraq. heritage will type it out yet eliminating Saddam did open new opportunities for the human beings.

Actually, GW Bush served in the Air National Guard duing the Vietnam War. And he did want to go. The jet he was was trained to fly was the F-111, which was obsolete by the time he had joined.

What do I care about whether Bush did or didn't?! It has nothing to do with my life today, I only care how he is leading our country today and I for one think he's doing a pretty good job. He was voted with a record breaking vote the second time to lead and thats all that counts. And of course its the Bush bashing demos doing it, that's how they spend their entire lives from morning till night!

I dont think he deserted per se...but he like many young men found ways to receive deferments....like Cheney...who rec. 5 deferments.
You're only called a draft dodger if you refused to go after your number came up...and you didn't have anything that fell into the deferment or postponement catagory.
They are called anti-american, But requesting a deferment( and avoiding service) is fine. Go figure!

If you call getting preferred treatment to get into the guard ahead of many on the list and then transferring into a "Phantom" unit where no one can remember serving with him (Despite a $10,000. reward for proof to that effect), I would say yes he deserted, as opposed to those drafted among us who still have legs and arms currently on detached duty in Vietnam

I don't believe he either deserted or went AWOL as Dan Rather would have you sheep believe.
I do believe dem muckrackers not only looked for dirt but created some of the dirt themselve. Politics is getting nasty. This is exactly why I will vote Republican even though I'd hope for a much stronger 3rd party that is pro-freedom, pro-close the border, pro-gun, anti-tax, and pro-defense.

Please go back to your history teacher and demand that they give you an F in history!
He was not nor did not go AWOL from Vietnam.
On that note about the Democrats then why didn't Mr. Kerry release ALL of his records durring the 2004 elections? NO he did not and the Senators office said so in the election and so did he.
