Does it mean that you gained weight or your hips have gotten wider?

no they haven't shrunk and yes I had them for a long time

That would depend upon whether or not you are working out.
If you are not, then yes, you are gaining fat and your hips and butt are getting wider.
If you are working out, it could just mean that you are gaining muscle more quickly than you are burning fat and the area is getting bigger - that does not necessarily mean that you are gaining fat

Could me water weight gain, or you have gained weight. Women retain water more than men if we eat salty food, try drinking a lot of water. If that doesn't help you've gained weight and the only way your hips can get wider is if you do gain inches. Think about the last time you wore them.........if it's been awhile then it's a weight gain.

Possible shrinkage if your pants are new. Otherwise, you might want to check the scale or take your measuments and write them down. When you think your pants are getting tighter you can measure again to see if you are increasing your size.

u probably gained weight if you say that the pants have not shrunk.

well in my humble opinion, either you have gotten fatter or you need to take a huge crap. On a more personal note, I'm hoping the second possibility happens to me later tonight because my pants are getting tight. I'm hoping i'm one giant turd away from last year's wardrobe.

Maybe your pants shrunk in the washer/dryer.

It probably just means you've gain a little weight and have outgrown them, or they're made like that
