I think 13 should be the limit. After that, kids should get together with friends and have Halloween Pizza parties or something like that.

Usually children lose interest in the process by 13-14...

Give the child candy duty at your home and tell them they can nip candy out of the bowl if they like... I also give my children the option of dressing up to hand out the candy if they so choose...

If a child of 13-14 is given the option of remaining home and still getting candy they will often chose on thier own to stop trick or treating because they can see the advantages to not trapsing around getting random candy when they can get all they want and choose exactly what they get from home...

The last time I went was when I was 14 or 15. I always had a costume though, not like a lot of the older (15,16 and 17 year olds) kids that come to my door now in their regular clothes with their backpack opened up to put candy in. I really don't care how old they are as long as they put some effort into it and actually dress up.

It really depends on the child. I'm 22 and I still love to go trick or treating. Thankfully I have 2 kids to take!!! You should let them decide, but if you don't want to give kids who look too old candy then don't.

Yes, i agree! I think the cut off age should be 13! By 14 the only things they are probably going to be doing (especially boys...lol) is vandalism and pranks! My boys stopped at 12! They are very mischievous...they think Halloween is a time for pranks!! I know not all boys are like this, but the ones i know are!!

I don't think 14 is too old....but why not tell them that they cannot go trick or treating unless they wear a costume???

We live in kind of a small town, and we have 16-17 year old that still go. Not very many, but I say if they want to go, let them. It's Halloween, believe me there is a lot worse things to do than T or T. I would rather give them candy then have them egg my house, or toilet paper my yard.

I think once they start highschool (so grade 9) is too old. However, me and my friends used to go out trick or treating until we finished highschool, but most houses told us we were too old...lol.

14 is what I would think. I hate it when older kids just run from house to house for the candy. No costume or anything just to be greedy. It was so bad in my neighborhood last year I told them when I opened the door, "No costume, no candy". They ruin it for the younger kids.

I went until my sophmore year in High school. My daughter is 14 and in 8th grade ( and 3 " taller than me her mom) and she and her friends are going. Whatever. She had to buy her own costume though.
