I have just purchased a powerful server with 2 Gig of memory, 2 processors and 2 320 Gig hard drives. It has no OS yet. I want to install W2K 2003 Server and dual boot with Linux, SUSI has bee recommended but I am open on this. Is Dual Boot better than soemthing like VMWare? I think dual boot. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

Dual boot is faster since it is all native, but you can't run both systems at the same time like you can with VMWare. So it really depends on how you are going to use the server.

I have never set a server up dual boot because normally you want a server available all the time. SO... if you have a service running on Windows you won't be able to get there when you are booted to Linux and vice-versa. I have had a second server with Linux on VMWare on the same box and both were always available on the network.

Hi!

First, install Win 2k3 or 2k and then SuSE.
Also,
1. I presume your HDDs are SATA. When prompted, insert de SATA driver disk into the floppy (the message is something like: Press F6 if you need to install and third party SCSI or RAID drivers...)
2. SuSE might not be able to use your SATA drives (I'm a Windows kind of guy...) that's why I can't help you here. You'll have to create a swap partition for SuSE. The partition size should be like twice your RAM.

Both setup applications are quite straight forward.

Good luck!

I actual have a 250 gig, and approximately 10 gigs of it are stored for restoration. yet a 320 gig this is showing 128 is genuinely broken! heavily, returh that sucker perfect now, and *****. Then get a sparkling one, of a diverse form, from a diverse keep.
