Of course they can. My Priscilla & Elvis did (without my permission by the way!) and have had twins!
Kipper & CuJo are wonderful, loving & brilliant just like Auntie Mamma and Uncle Daddy are!!!
Just how do you suppose there are so many cats in the world anyway if not for inbreeding??? do you really suppose that each kitten comes from a litter of unrelated cats?? C'mon!
If you and the kitten like each other, I say get the kitten! I'm sure she/he is a lovely and wonderful kitty who will adore you! Good Luck!

I would definitely look into buying a different cat. That is very wrong and sad that the kitties owners let a brother and sister mate, there is no telling what could be wrong with that kitty physically or neurologically. Even if it looks ok and acts ok it is extremely prone to developing difficulties in the future. Please look elsewhere for a furry friend, why not try the pound there are always tons of animals that need rescued from there, just because they don't have a pedigree doesn't make them any less lovable!

They can but it is not a good idea to let them and if the female goes into "heat" you would need to keep them apart. The reason it is not a good idea is that any hereditary problems they have are just that much more likely to passed on.
In the wild with big cats as males approach adulthood or breeding age they will be evicted from the group so that families cannot interbreed. They know it is not a good idea even though it is possible.

NO! They have the same genetic make up and if they mate there is a good chance the kittens will be handicapped! As gross as it may sound a mother and son can mate because they only share half of the same genetic make up but brothers and sisters have identical genetics which will cause many propblems.

It is actually very common in the animal world. Inbreeding is what MOST breeders do, it keeps the blood lines pure. But yes it can lead to defects......dobermans have notoriously weak hearts..... But my cats (brother and sister) got together and made babies, all were beautiful and perfect!!

Sure! Can I have the five legged or two headed offspring? Would be a great conversation piece.

Definitely, although it is not a good idea due to an increased risk for birth defects.

of course they can but its inbreeding - the babies may have mental and physical problems as a result of their DNA being too close. same like with humans...
