If you already have allergies and thick mucus milk makes it become thicker and yes it does produce more mucus and thicker which makes it so much harder to get rid of. When i worked at OSU we always told our respiratory patients to avoid use of milk and any milk products as much as possible epically during this time. Also drinking alot of fluid like water and all helps thin out the secretions and something hot like tea or coffee will help you be able to bring them up easier. Something hot is like a dilator to your system.

you may have developed an allergy to Dairy.... not to be confused with being lactose intolerant. This type of allergy is a sensitivity to the casein found in dairy products and it can be serious enough to cause anaphylaxis and death. you should have it checked

Dairy products coat our stomach lining and throat. They also act as kind of a glue. If there are allergins in your system, or in the air and you drink milk for example it is more likely to get mixed in and coat the areas most affected by allegies.

Not an expert. I understand that humans cannot actually digest cow's milk molecules because of the size of the molecule. The body has an addictive allergic reaction which actually makes you crave more of it. The molecule is changed with enzymes and that is why yoghurt is more digestible. Milk increases production of mucous and that it why it is good to avoid milk when you have a cold or chest infection.
