No. Pope Leo appointed Charlamagne Emperor of the Roman Catholic Church as a rewrd for past protection, and to ensure the protection of the church from invaders. Charlamagne successfully rooted out and defeated those who sought the demise of the entire religion.

Charlemagne ("Charles the Great") and Pope Leo 2nd were two different people.
