Depends what side your on in the reality of it ( Technology advancments and what not ). True, if every person in the world got to feel the emotions and sensations of what fighting for your life is really like when someone orders you to do something war wouldn't be so close to the top for choices on solving problems. I had my bro go over to Iraq, he had a bunch of pictures and stuff, I really never saw the point to war beforehand, but seeing a couple kids with there faces missing really drives the point home. If only the entire world would calm down and acknowledge murder is murder, accidental or intentional the result is the same.

If you haven't noticed we always have a war every few years and we are going to have wars in the future. No one likes wars, and since a president is the only one to declare one yes it's going to be his war. It's only been in my generation tho that there has been all the protests and anti everything. Back in the day people still didn't like war but they got togeather like true Americans and did all they could to show a united front and support the troops. I really think the Nam generation and the one now doesn't have the fortitude or patrioism of my parents and grandparents. It's sad.

To answer your question, I would argue that it's just as bad for people who aren't fighting. Most people have loved ones fighting in any major war, and it's heartbreaking to have to wonder day by day whether those they care about made it through the night.
And now I'm going to go off on a tangent.
I love that word, "freedom". It seems so easy to grasp, but the concept seems to elude us still. Are we truly fighting for freedom over in Iraq? Are the men and women serving the US overseas in the ME dying for true freedom? Or are they dying for an idea, a grand, glorious idea that we've yet to touch? I support our men and women, but I don't support the war. It was shameful what happened in Iraq in those early days of the war. Looting, rampant crime, lack of power, lack of basic sanitation. That is freedom, that a superpower like the US can't provide some security or basic amenities to people? Just goes to show how wrapped up we all were in that one, blinding word, that we turned Iraq into a 2D transformation of tyranny to democracy. It isn't that simple.
"What the hell does liberty mean anyhow? It's just a word like house or table or any other word. Only it's a special kind of word. A guy says house and he can point to a house to prove it. But a guy says come on let's fight for liberty and he can't show you liberty. He can't prove the thing he's talking about so how in the hell can he be telling you to fight for it?"

Oh yes! It's even easier to ignore for those who don't have to endure it.
For example, the people of Baghdad cannot find the logic in responding to an attack by individuals on the Twin Towers in NYC by destroying their city, country and culture.
Even here in the US, I can't imagine people accepting in a sanguine fashion having our water and food supplies poisoned, for example, because of someone being upset that Lebanon got trashed for no reason.
Why have we let this happen?

I agree. I served too. Right now most of the US pretends there is no war even going on. Good question.

There are those who support the war and those who don't. Those who don't need to learn to respect the men and women who serve our country both overseas and here at home.

Yes and I appreciate your question. But I have one, how is fighting in Iraq protecting our freedom? Now you know why Sadam was so brutal to keep those two religions from fighting.
I say get out and put him back in there.

Absolutely. Bush doesn't have to worry about his son or daughter, father or mother being killed. I say put the two warring countries' leaders in a room with weapons and have them duel it out. We'd have a lot less wars.
