Yes & no! It has not been proven yet that SLS does cause cancer. It however has been linked to cervical and testicual cancer. Which means it is not conclusive at this time. Any thing that bubbles may have SLS or forms of SLS in them. Including most toothpaste including "natural" brands. There are some small businesses (including mine) that make truly natural products that do not contain SLS. If your interested in one in your area or websites, let me know. I'm happy to help.

*********In Addition:

"Here are the potential negatives:
It is used in toothpaste to make it foam and also so the paste will stay together when coming out of the machines. Unfortunately it also aggravates the gums causing irritation. A University of Oslo (Norway) report states that individuals with gum disease had their symptoms cleared 40 times faster when non-SLS toothpaste was used.
There is a possible link between SLS and permanent damage to the eyes of infants. The Italian study I heard about was 40 years old. This definitely deserves further investigation.
May increase hair loss, and promote skin and scalp irritation in sensitive individuals. May produce skin and hair damage including cracking and inflammation. SLS is a known skin irritant and is used in lotion tests. First the skin is irritated with SLS - then the soothing effects of the lotion is tested on it.
A (remote) possible bladder cancer risk factor exists. But only if you hold your urine in your bladder for long periods of time (Trucker Syndrome)."

There is no definite proof that this is the case, it's mostly speculation due to testing on rodents. But testing large amounts of this ingredient on rodents and the small amounts that you find in shampoos and toothepastes having an effect on humans is few and far between. Please don't worry. HTH : )

No, this is a crappy myth. There is nothing in your cosmetics that causes cancer. Please see www.cosmeticscop.com for REAL research on skin and hair care.
