I think a god is anything that a person puts higher than them selves. What do you think?....Can money be a god? Or sport stars?

that which you worship most is your god, be it money , power, sex or drugs.
God is all loving, all merciful, just and selfless, we creatures sure have a long, long way to go.

You are right, anything can be or become a god. even God talked about other gods. I feel (which by the way doesn't mean much) that anything that have a control over you in some form, and you accept this control that is has over you because you feel you can not do without it or without it you are not complete, depressed, sad, or mad. Money is a great example because to operate in this society you need it. But how you act when you do not have money determine if it is your god because you do not need money to be happy.

Something that you believe in that allows you to validate who you are. And yes for some that can mean success they obtained from the money they make, and the status of man. For others it is the razors edge that we walk from the adversity of mans status, and feel our faith pushed to great heights. Either way what constitutes a god is what in short feeds our soul in that moment, or what we think feeds it. Sometimes we just have to go hungry to know that we are starving.

In order to be a god, the only requirement is it must be #1 on your list.
In contrast in order to be God, He created everything including you and me, then He came to Earth in human form so He could be offered up as the final sacrifice for our sins.

God has to be superhuman to be a God.. if u see god as a creator. If god is just somebody who does whatever he wants, then many people can be almost like gods.

Anything that preempts God's rightful place in your life becomes "a god" to you. It could be money, self, hobbies, etc.
God is first and foremost:
Seek God first, love God most, serve God best.

No, a god is an anthropomorphic personification of an aspect of the world.
In Yahweh/Jehovah's case, he is the anthro embodiment of everything.
There can be a god OF money, but money can't be a god in itself. Money can be worshipped but it's a matter of materialism rather than religious faith.

From your question, I assume that you aren't asking about the one true God, but about "gods".
There are many false gods in the world. What constitutes a "god"? I believe that a "god" is anything that distracts you from the one true God.
Yes, it can be money, false "religions", power, and even food.

I agree with you... money, sports stars, entertainers... there was a time when "Eric Clapton is god" was the phrase of the day... it really embarrassed Clapton.

God is not what is described in holy books. holy books are full of holes.
yes. god has to be higher than themselves. ancient indian seers, rishis achieved that state. they were great dhyanis (meditators. there is no equivalent word for dhyana in english or any other language. for convenience i will use Meditation). a man who is a dhyani is a different kind of man, that has been noticed by all indian seers, sages and rishis. ancient india respected men and women who attained godhood. that is the effort of all dhyanis or meditators. journey of mankind from unconsciousness to superconsciousness.
once a man reaches the superconscious stage, he has to surpass it. that moment meditator is dissolved and he becomes one with the whole existence. Budha called that Nirvana or Enlightenment. you see yourself everywhere. living, nonliving - in everything its just you. thats when you can say "Tatvamasi". That means I am that. God, devil, man, woman, animals, trees, water, fire or anything - its the same consciousness that is present. indian seers have realised it a million years back, they have passed that knowledge from generation to generation.
they have realised the universal consciousness (god) and the personal consciousness (other beings) are the same. only the person who attains that enlightenment can see it. those who saw it were called "Darshak or Darshanik" or Seer or witness. So India has Darshan, not any philosophy as in west. philosophy means love for thinking. Indian seers were witness to the eternal truth. that everything in this cosmos is divine and godly. its the same divine god that is manifested in every one, in the good man and bad man. god is not an individual entity, but everything in this cosmos. god does not create, he just manifests. he will not judge anyone, as it amounts judging himself. of what use is such judgement?
for him the cosmos is his stage, where great plays are staged. he is the actor, he is the director, producer and all that is required to make a great play. every being here just plays his part. then moves on. life according to indian darshan is a "leela" (play, a great play) that never ends. it goes on for ad nauseum.
purpose of every man, woman, creature and non living things in this cosmos is to attain that divine enlightenment. unlike man, everyting in this cosmos understands that well. they do not consult scriptures for way to enlightenment. enlightenment is the only way to god, that one has to find oneself. scriptures are for mediocre, priests, politicians & charlatans. they are dead words. the soul has moved out of those words. its a waste of time searching for god in holy books.
In short, god is you. be aware of the god in you, understand the god in you, become enlightened. move from unconsciousness to consciousness and then into superconsciousness and then beyond that into the cosmic being. this happens inside you.
your money or sports car, every thing is godly, divine. because its god manifested. take care of it. be one with it. just melt yourself with your car, your money. do not force anything. allow things to happen , slowly or at its own pace. enlightenment will happen, suddenly like lightning or a clash of thunder. wait for that moment. Enlightenment is God.
