Christians love to be hypocritical and they never practice what they preach. Their behavior isn't very Christ-like!
And for those of you giving me thumbs-down, again, not very Christ-like at all! But typical!

I was brought up as a christian but am now an atheist. I have discovered that there is an aversion to the term "atheist" that is ingrained in the American culture because of it's Christianity and manifests even in people who call themselves agnostics (I am also a Canadian and this religious "discrimination" is not nearly as strong in that more rational nation). Christianity since it's inception and especially since the inquisition has been a religion that is fearful of "heresy" and, as the old testament teaches, is a religion that demands violent action to deal with heretics. Atheists are, by definition, christian heretics so the "bashing" you experience is frustration by these Christians at being both told on Sunday to kill the heretics ( Zechariah 13:3, 2 Chronicles 15:12-13, Exodus 22:19, Deuteronomy 13:13-19, Deuteronomy 17:2-5, Leviticus 24:10-16, Deuteronomy 13:1-5, Romans 1:24-32, Exodus 31:12-15, etc.) and the rest of the week to be a good citizen of a western nation. I know this because I lived this as a child.

I've just read through the answers to this question. I just want to ask who is bashing whom? The atheists seem to be more filled with hate towards Christians than the other way around. I am a Christian, but I know that atheism is a prevalent religion in this country. (and yes, atheism is a religion not the absence of religion) I have to accept that many people believe in no god but that doesn't mean I have to think they are right. I can debate with them if I want.

you must remember there are imposters in any group. Jesus points them out in His parable about the wheat and the tares and instructs us not to cut them down because we can not identify them well enough that we will not cut down some wheat by accident.
Some people (i think many are sociopaths do to their lack of conscience in their actions) find it advantageous to masquade as Chritians and get advantages that atheism does not offer like success in bussiness or politics.
I would personally ask you not group us all together. Know that while a true friend might get frustrated and react in the end their behavior will change while the constant offenders are sociopaths masqurading as Christians. If you can not do this know you will be forgiven by the true friends.
Might be a good idea when you identify one of these to go to one of their questions and just say you know they are masquarading as a christian, you could do it in a question using the term sociopath cuz mocking these will cause them to leave. Says so in the Bible.

I don't bash Atheists as a group. I have a problem with individuals. I know a few good Atheists and Pagans, and I know more bad ones. I know people who do give Atheists and Pagans a bad name (like thieves and boyfriend/girlfriend stealers and hedonists). If I attack someone on this board, it's in an answer to a question I find to be insulting, not because of their religion or beliefs

I agree about the racism. You might think racism is a color thing, but nope it has no limitations when it comes to ignorance. I have an atheist friend myself, I let them do what they do even though I'm not atheist myself. I always believe a good person is just that, take away some racist assumptions and there is no real difference between us. Just remember though, racism goes both ways, not all christians are haters...

According to a recent poll of people across the country, Atheists are the most hated minority there is. People fear them, because they won't blindly devote their lives to something they do not believe in. They are dangerous because they prefer to research, study, and make informed decisions for themselves. They do not take what others try to force-feed them, they constantly call into question everything and anything and are beholden to no one but themselves and their fellow humans.
They are dangerous because they cannot be controlled.
Delve back into church history. What else is "religion"- NOT spirituality, but religion; DOGMA- but a means of controlling the spiritual beliefs of a group of people? Nothing is more precious to a human than their soul. "Religion" uses fear of eternal damnation and faith to control- "the opiate of the masses" indeed.
Likewise, atheists view Christians, or any religious group, as enslaved automatons. They believe what they believe because it is Written, and it is written because their god said it should be Written, and so they must believe. They are prisoners of their dogma, they believe whatever their pastor tells them to, they revile anything that smacks of free thought and humanism. Perhaps many Christians are. But there are many more that are not, just as not all atheists are angry "haters".
You're always going to have people who hate other people for no other reason than because the other people think differently. Maybe they ought to listen to their god for a change- Judge not, and love one another.

After looking over your previous question, it appears that the ones who normally do the bashing are not among those who answered. In other words, those Christians who responded to your question are generally some of the most accepting in the forum.

I don't hate the people, but I hate the way of their thinking. I feel sorry cause they don't know who's their Creator was ? If some of your best friend are atheists I hope you can shown them how good God is, not only with words but from your actions too. Don't let people blame Christian or worse Jesus cause our mistakes in our life. God bless u...

You are apparently new to this forum. The bashing happens on all sides and with all persuasions. If you're truly looking for education and answers, you'll learn to ignore the bashers and seek those that are mature enought to give honest answers and honest questions.
