Is there any website, like babelfish, that can translate english to swahili? I realy need to learn it. I want to work in Africa when I get older and I think its best to start learning some now. Any ideas?

The babelfish website & another college website that used to be able to translate Swahili had to close due to lack of funding. Some of the Rosetta Stone or Berlitz courses may be accessible online.

Swahili is actually relatively easy to pick up as a language. Unlike English, each letter is pronounced the same way every time it's used, so you don't have to worry about dipthongs or changing sounds. Also, double vowels (like "oo") are just long o sounds, like the English "boat" not "pool".

Good luck with the swahili. Utaweza kufahamu Swahili. Hongera sana.

To my knowledge, Swahili is a very complicated language, with an emphasis on the aural sound of the words (not just the written word). It would be unlikely that you could find an online course, unless it was teleconferencing, as it would require you to both listen to a native speaker and speak the language to someone who could judge your pronunciation. In any case, you would likely have to pay for the course. A better option would be to research colleges in your area that may teach that language and take a class in person. Your results will be vastly better!

Try Rossetta Stone Online, and I think Swahili is an interesting language, and I'd also be interested in learning. I am African American. Arab is also a interesting number. I'm Learning German Now.
