Mental Slavery

Of course they do. Although the overt institution of slavery that white people practiced has been grudgingly abolished, institutions were put in place to perpetuate a system of domination for generations to come. 1865 was not that long ago. In the United States came the rise of the Ku Klux Klan and similar organizations which became the blueprint for modern policing. Two functions of such groups were to maintain a system of slavery by keeping sharecroppers coralled. It failed to some degree because 'Cotton' failed in the south (see W.E.B. DuBois). DuBois fought for the right of blacks to be educated because saw education as the easiest means to take part in democracy. Another function was to intimidate blacks to abandon land without remuneration, something that affects my family today. Jim Crow laws further enforced a system of seperate and unequal. Restricted covenants controlling who buys what property and where, still exist today (probably on some law books, and definitely in the wills and testaments filed away in attorney offices all over the country). Tax abatements for corporations to build in outlying areas allowing lily white towns to pop up over night. Discrimination by banks preventing undesirables free access to the monetary system. The fact that in the United States blacks' right to vote is subject to revision because we are still not officially recognized as being human. The ammendment that stated a black person is 3/5 of a a man is still a part of the body of law that governs the land. If whites were honest, the ammendment that supposedly nullified it would have been taken off the books, but it wasn't. I can add to this list but close with a warning that slavery as practiced by Europeans, especially the British, Dutch, and Spanish happened 10 minutes ago, and its seed still sprouts today. Be advised, the mechanism is in place and can very easily be reimplemented in all its nefarious degradation (from what I see out here in the streets), if we don't get our collective @!*# together. Earf!

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery is to free yourself from brainwash. Your mind is a slave to the government. Example of brainwash: history books state Christopher Columbus founded America but really there were people in America already who were indigenous to the land. Native Americans and the explorers before him.

Seeing these answers I can confirm that most don't. Let me try to explain "mental slavery" Mental slavery is where black people think of themselves as inferior to whites or people of other races because they were conditioned to think like that during and after slavery. That's why you hear black people saying things like "acting black", "acting white". Acting white usually means to mentally enslaved black people as speaking proper grammar and carrying yourself with respect and class in public. Where as acting black is considered speaking slang constantly usually a lot of profanity and being loud and ghetto. Now where did that ideal come from? Slavery! Also the whole "good hair" "bad hair" thing. Good hair to mentally enslaved black people is hair that is close to Caucasian hair which is usually straight or wavy. They think bad hair is "nappy" hair which their ancestors had. Mental slaves also think that the lighter a person skin is the more attractive they are, because lighter skin blacks are closer to looking white then a dark skin black is. That to me this mental slavery, because these mentalities were conditioned into slaves and passed on for generations. This still exist! White people seem to think we are blaming them, no, atleast I'm not. I'm blaming the act of slavery itself on the mentality of a lot of blacks today.

the mental slavery that bob marley is referring to are European false ideologies that have shaped the behavior of descendants of slaves. For example, the need for black females to straighten their hair based on the false notion that Caucasian female hair is the standard for beauty.
