Worldwide, the success rate is about 2%. Just this week I issued DV immigrant visas to a family that had tried five times, a woman who had tried twice, and a young man who had won on his first try.

BTW, the idiot who tried to tie DV winnings to race is an idiot. Here, for example, is the variety of winners last year:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1317.html

For DV-2008, natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply because they sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. over the period of the previous five years:
BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, PERU, POLAND, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.

The last time I looked, Poland and Russia were both considered Eastern European.

Yes, it works -- the Green Card Lottery. Don't use a law firm claiming to do the service for extra money when you can fill out the form yourself and send in the fee. Chances??? The quota goes up and down. My guess is it is a little worse than a poker hand, but better than winning the national lottery. Green Card acts as a visa. Soon as you get it you're eligible to work, legally and get a Social Security number. You get a better chance at a non-lottery Green Card if you have a boss sponsor in the health care or nanny field.

the chance is slim, but there is a chance. BTW even if you win, does not mean you'll pass the interview. I know people who been playing for years and never won, and i know some who won from the first time. Tough honestly, I'm not sure that this is really a lottery... why would single young woman with 3 kids will win it right away but married in her 40s not win it year after year.... you know what i mean?

It depends on what country you are from & your race too. If you are from Eastern Europe, your chance is 100% to get it in even less than a year or maximum 2 years. If you are from a non white country, your chance is better winning the normal money lottery. It's a cover up way to bring white immigrants legally, while claimming equal opportunity to all. THE TRUTH & I KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT !!! Half of the Eastern Europeans in America ,came through it.
