I will automatically be in the Individual Ready Reserve because i signed up for an 8 year commitment, 4 active and i guess the next 4 IRR. Is anyone else IRR? What are the chances of the government activating me? I'm a 42A? Holler at me ETS-ers!

if your MOS is not in high demand, you might get lucky at first and be allowed to seperate and not have to worry about Stop Loss. BUT IRR people ARE being called back into service, and not always in their former MOS, either.

There will always be the chance that your number could come up until your initial 8 year OBSERV is completed.

As of right now, there really are no requirements that are being enforced for Soldiers assigned to the IRR. However, due to personnel shortfalls and realization that the IRR is broken, the Reserves have begun to develop changes to 'fix' the IRR.

Things you might expect in the next 4 years left would be being attached to a Reserve/Guard unit, mandatory annual checking in with that unit, maintaining current contact info, etc, and possibly even some type of MOS related training.

Poor guy, you actually think the military will let you leave. If you are one of the lucky few who get to leave active duty, it must be for a mental or physical reason, as the military is even deferring retirement for able-bodies. I am unsure if the new revisions to the UMCC spell out how long your active status will be prolonged. If you do leave active duty, chances are the military will move you to a Reserve unit that will be going to Iraq shortly. Both of my siblings are in active duty, and I am an Army brat, so I have an idea of how it works. Worst case scenario, ask a chaplain or your CO.

no chances of getting activated if your in the IRR, unless you join a reserve unit and become a drilling reservist then your chances of getting activated will grow exponentially. hope this helps.
