My husband stayed home with our 2 yr old daughter yesterday, and he called me at work to tell me that while he was fixing her breakfast she went into my sons desk and found some safety scissors and cut her hair. I came home and she has a mullet. I mean she looks like JOE DIRT! I was very proud of her hair. I had not cut the back ever and she had pretty curls. Now I have to take her to a salon and see what they can do with it, but I am sure it is going to have to be a pixie style. Please tell me my daughter is not the only child who has done this!

I know it may sound really vain of me, but I am so upset about this, because I loved her hair. It was down to her waist and I loved fixing it in cute styles. I just can't believe that now she is going to have a boy but. I am just worried that the curls are gone for good.

Don't fret too much. Every kid does this...and be careful, as traumatic as it is she might do it again.
Just have a little fun and enjoy the temporary low maintence. Play with head bands and little bows with her new short do.
You'll laugh at it later...just remember it could always be worse. My mom found me combing my hair with her razor saying "pretty pretty" when I was your babies age. Needless to say..I looked like I had male pattern baldness. :)

I know it's super hard to deal with but I think most kids have done this. My girls cut each others hair about a month or two ago. Along with a barbie, a troll doll, a stuffed lion & Dora. It was interesting. My youngest's hair was cut flat against her head in one spot int he back & the rubber band that was in her hair on the top was cut out, so there really wasn't any fixing it. We jsut worked around it & it's finally starting tog row back some. Now it sticks up everywhere. lol My oldest got her bangs cut very uneven so I jsut evened them out as best as I could. Just try to remember it's only hair & it WILL grow back. YOu'll look back on this in 10 yrs or so & laugh about it.

OK, I do not have children, but when I was a kid I used to do that whenever I got my hands on scissors. I also tried to "style" my cousin's hair.
Once I made a bald patch in the middle of my cousin's hair, and she had long, curly hair. Needles to say, my aunt was not happy. Also, once I cut my bangs super extra short (almost shaved them), and the rest of my hair was long.Of course, my parents kept scissors hidden, but I did this when we were visiting relatives- there was no way to restrain me. That is why I had short hair until I turned 5 or 6.
So don't worry, your kid is not the only child who's done that.

Take her to a local beautician... They have seeen many kids with the Joe Dirt look.. They can easily advise you on a style they can cut to make the most of what's left...
When my older 2 kids were 3 and 2 they collaberated on 2 hair cuts one each.. For my son we had to go with the shave it all off to 1/4 inch long and start over, with my daughter it was a modified pixie it resembled the Princess Di cut from when she first got married...
I will never forget catching them in the bathroom my sons hair already fully cut a piece missing here a piece missing there nearly to the scalp right at the top.. (My daughter did a lovely job) I was first alerted to the situation when I heard "Teeth (Keeth) tut (cut) dis (this) one now." I made a beeline for the bathroom, dropping the pile of laundry I had just retrieved from the dryer on the kitchen floor, to find my daughter holding up a curl as my son manipulated the scissors... There was hair everywhere and unabashed my daughter said "Mom we tut our hair like grandma does." Oh yes my children not only cutting but proud they are acting like grandma the cosmotologist... She then smiled and said it her best grandma imitation "Do you like the style and tut?" "We look dorgeous (gorgeous)." LOL
Luckily they outgrow the self styling stage at about 4 and it usually doesn't return until they are teenagers and just want simple things like bright pink dye and a mohawk... LOL

Well I had my oldest boy cut the youngest ones hair and oh
my goodness i was mad. It was a complete mess. The only
thing we could do was have it cut real short. And his hair was
real curly. So guess what, it grew out alot curlier. So i
wouldn't worry about the curls, they will come back. I think
us moms hurt more than the child, because of course we
want our child to look their best. The kids just go on to the
next thing.
Hang in there, it will grow back out and be beautiful.

It's normal that kids this age experiment on things like that of cutting their own hair. Perhaps she saw a barber/ beautician cut hair, and she was just immitating him/her. Toddlers love to immitate what adults dot. I gives them a sense of self approval that they're doing what older people can do. I had my own sahre of that story cause i used to cut my own hair when i was 2-3 years old. I know of many others who did the same when they were younger. This means that your kid's not the only one who cut her hair.
Anyway, don't worry cause hair grows back... remember? Her beutiful curly locks will come back in no time.
Just tell your kids that real scissors are only used for cutting paper or it should be used with adult supervision. Since kids do love to play pretend (they immitate adults as a form of play. Please allow them to do that because it helps develop ehtier creativity), allow your child to use pretend scissors (use fingers, middle and pointing fingers) when playing pretend hair dressing.

my daughter did this a few weeks ago just because I told her I would let her get her hair trimmed instead of cut as short as she wanted it. (she's 5) Her hair was about two inches above her butt and now it's just a little above her shoulders. Your child isn't the only one out there to do this. If I remember right I did it when I was little too only thing was I cut my bangs.

My daughter did this once and I think all of my friends daughters have done it as well. Don't worry we've all been through it. And don't blame your husband. My daughter cut hers when I was home with her. She cut it over her ears. We had to get a Dorothy Hamil haircut. It was very cute, but my daughter HATED it and she never cut her hair again. Welcome to motherhood LOL! For some reason my son never cut his hair, it seems to me that more girls do it than boys, but that may just be my friends. Don't worry, her hair will grow back.
