In Britain its only criminals who assume a right to carry a gun.

We have always held back from arming our police force (apart from specialist units) and the argument from the hand wringing liberals was always that if the police carried guns then the criminals would to.

NEWSFLASH - Its now considered by our young criminal fraternity that if you dont carry a gun or a knife and be prepared to use it, you are so out of fashion you may as well be wearing jeans from a supermarket.

I am a register firearm owner, which means that I am strictly licenced to own guns, however that is not a permit to carry them with me. I can only use them in designated places and must have them stowed securely when carried from the place of storage to the place of use. Getting one of these licences is the most difficult thing in the world to do and involves police interviews, psychiatric reports, references etc.

At the same time you could walk into any pub anywhere in our inner cities and walk out with an illegal handgun for fifty quid.

We hear about shootings all the time these days the latest being an innocent young lad named by his parents after a gun fighter who despite being 14 and never in trouble found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time (Midnight) and ended up dead.

His "friends" formed a funeral cortege for him dressed as L.A gangsters (bandanas etc ).

Britian is a sick sad place these days/.....

I'm 24 and I've been carrying a Victorinox Swiss Champ daily for over 5 years. I use it almost daily too. A knife (esp a multitool) may be one of the greatest tools of all time. However, make sure you know the laws where you live. Here, all knives over 3.5 inches are considered weapons and cannot be concealed. Ditto "any dagger, dirk, poniard or stiletto" and "ny switchblade knife or gravity knife". I have the entire text of the law saved. Firearms are weapons though and are less usefl as daily tools. The only real reason to carry a gun is self-defense. Once again, know and obey your local laws. There is no way that I know of for anyone your age to legally carry a gun around for defense.

No, i hope it never happens here. Having a gun in your home makes using it very tempting as a last resort to arguments and things of the like. Its simple, if you deprive someone the use of a gun then you are not going to get shot.
