Despite intensive research, the exact causes remain unknown. While most people affected eventually learn to read, they may have severe spelling problems unless they get support and specialised education. Dyslexia isn’t a symptom of low intelligence. For example, Leonardo da Vinci and Thomas Edison - both highly intelligent and creative people - had dyslexia.

May I suggest a book called the gift of dyslexia by a guy named Davis. Dyslexia is NOT a learning DISORDER, but a learning impairment, to call it a disorder is to say that there is no way to correct it. But there are ways to teach dyslexics so that they understand. My son is dylsexic and I refused to beleive he has a disorder!

Its something that your born with, most people who have it don't even though they do, back when my younger brother was in school, they just thought he was slow or his eyes were bad, but came to find out he has dyslexia and now with training he got in high school, he did (does) great. Talk to the teachers or counselors for more advice.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder. Its underlying cause is believed to be a brain-based condition that influences the ability to read written language. It is identified in individuals who fail to learn to read in the absence of a verbal or nonverbal intellectual impairment, sensory deficit (e.g., a visual deficit or hearing loss), pervasive developmental deficit or a frank neurological impairment.

We don't know. We don't know what causes left or right-handedness. We don't know what causes hook-handedness (some people write with their hand below the words and others, the hook-handed, write with the words between them and the hand). We simply don't know.
Considering that in some parts of the world people read differently: English-speakers read from left to right, top to bottom; but some elsewhere read right to left; or top to bottom left to right, or top to bottom right to left. Perhaps the original literate people of other cultures in ancient times was dyslexic and we "normal" people are the oddballs. We simply don't know.

It is a learning disorder/disability. My 10 year old daughter has it and from what I understand, it is inherited.. her father has it and my sister had it so it's hard to know which side of the family she got it from. My child was not diagnosed until third grade so if you suspect your child has it, do not wait.... talk to their teacher and school about testing immediately.

I truly don't know. But it does seem that I heard it has something to do with the way children see.
An eye exam is most important early on to guarantee no problems.
