There are several alternative available at health food markets. Look for a Whole Foods or Wild Oats in your area. There are regular bread made with oat flour, potato flour, spelt. Most of them have very little tast difference but a little consistency difference. Ask for help when you are at the market.

I suffer from wheat intolerance, always have done ever since I can remember. I'd suffer from severe crippling migraines and a nasty bloated feeling in my gut.
My parents realised my problem when I was a young child, at the time there were very little gluten free alternatives, the one which were available were very expensive too (it was the early Eighties! health food cost a packet).

In recent years most shops contain sections specifically for Organic/Special diets, try Tesco's they've usually a vast range of Gluten Free Naan Breads, Loaves, crackers and cakes.

Alternatively you could try Rye Bread, its a very small dark loaf which is pretty tasty but it doesn't act like normal bread, you can't fold it as it just crumbles into a million pieces.

If you're feeling really adventurous you could make your own bread, most health food shops sell Gluten Free flours.

I know its really hard not to eat normal bread, but believe me you'll feel a lot healthier if you don't. When you eat bread and you're intolerant, the result is you become less able to absorb nutrients from all the other food you are eating...something about the lining of the gut becoming clogged with bread particles.

Good luck with the diet

actually my girlfriend does. What you can do is go to the grocery store (fred meyer for example) and they have bread that is not made from processed wheat. Its spelt flour or oat flour. There are a lot of options. But we find our way around it. There should be health food stores in your area that sell it too. Some kinds are horrible, but there are a few brands that are really good. Count your lucky stars though, because my girlfriend cant have processed wheat, fruit and sugar together within 5 hours of eachother (which eliminats a lot of food), certain kinds of calcium, and no dairy. So just explore, because there is always options. Worst case scenario you can get oat flour and make bread from that in place of wheat flour.

my friend is allergic to wheat.
she buys a special bread from Wild Oats.

Do you have a Wild Oats, Trader Joes, or Whole Foods near you?
Any of those health food grocery stores will have breads that don't contain wheat and/or other ingredients....

Have you tried soda bread, its not as good as the real stuff, but its about the best alternative. Sainsbury's sell it as loaves and I think they also do a pack where you can make your own? Most health food shops do it too.
