Get the best you can afford. Out of Iams, Eukanuba, Purina, Science Diet and Nutro, go with nutro. It has much better ingredients. Make sure whatever you decide to get is for Large Breed Puppy. I personally wouldn't feed my dobie any of these foods, and if you can afford better I would try Solid Gold, Wellness, Innova, Canidae or Claifornia Natural. You won't find these in chain petstores (you may find Solid Gold). You will have to go to feed stores or independent pet stores. These are much better quality foods with fewer fillers and more calories per cup of food. The idea is you want to first ingredient to be meat, no meal (ie chicken meal, it should say only chicken). Also you should try getting something without corn or wheat products in it (dogs have no use for corn and a lot of dogs are allergic to wheat). It all depends on what you can afford. I feed my dobie Wellness, but I've had her on Innova, Solid Gold and California Natural. I find that she does better on the Wellness. You'll also have to see how your dog does and determine if the food is working for him. It might be that he likes the cheaper food and does fine, however cheap food can lead to problems later in life, so ultimately it is your decision.
The only thing with Lamb and Rice is that studies have shown large breeds can develop problems with joints and arthritis later in life if kept on Lamb and Rice their entire lives. The lamb meat lacks some of the proteins found in almost all other kinds of meat and this can lead to unhealthy side effects as the dog ages.

I have a Lab too , and when she was a puppy I gave her dry food .
Look on the back of the bag and bye that kind of puppy dog food with the highest percentage of protein .
I always bye whole chickens very cheap like , $ 2,50 for a chicken , boil well until the meat comes of the bones , let it cool , take al the skin of ( that's bad for doggies ) and of course the bones .
I put it in a container and keep it in the refrigerator .
I mix some of the chicken with the dry food , hm mm !! she loves it .

Premium food (iams, sceince diet, Nutro) I would get a large breed puppy forumla, there are some out now. Look for one that has meat meal (chicken veal beef, etc...) as one of the first two ingredients for a good one, but most premium foods will be fine.
I personally feel Nutro is the best of that lot, they use better stuff and more of it. My dogs also love it and they often have two size of kibble for most forumlas. (your dog might like larg or small chunks better) Nutro is tops.
Good food is paramount, if you start off early and keep it up your dog wil suffer less problems.

I always feed my dogs the best I can afford, and that is a mix of the best dry food(a puppy one in your case) from the supermarket, or vet, one that is made FROM meat, and a good canned food. In Australia we have roo meat, it does not have much fat and pets love it (raw) you can also cook up your own stew of vegetables and rice and put a couple of spoonfuls in each meal (no onion or cabbage). A nice raw bone a couple of times a week and not too much fat, if he has a bone he may leave your shoes alone.

you could feed the puppie just about any dog food. Make sure it is made for puppies. it will help him/her when he is growing rather than if you bought him/her adult dog food.
