Use iTunes. It can rip them as MP3, AIFF, WAV, AAC, or Apple Lossless. It will also get the song names, album names, etc. if your computer is connected to the internet. It will also burn CDs. Free download:

If these songs that you wanna convert is on disc and are audio files than you simply need to rip them using WMP ( windows media player ) it gives you option to rip them as WMA ( windows media audio ) or MP3. If these files are already on the HDD than you can burn them using Nero or sonic simply select that you wanna create an MP3 disc & it'll automatically convert & burn'em onto disc.

The million dollar question is from what format? .wav, .midi, .wma etc., etc?

u can do this in i-tunes...
- edit
- preferences
- advanced
- importing
- under ''import using'' select mp3 encoder
- then once its converted take it from your i-tunes library folder
