I have heard a lot about women experiencing sexual harrassment in the military. Not just from females but also males say that this happens to women. Does anyone have any comments? I don't mean any offense and I am not accusing anyone, I am just curious.

Yes, it happens, just like in the civilian world. However, there are briefings constantly to curb it. Punishment is severe. However, it's too easy for a woman to scream harassment without proof. They still need to work on that. Yes, it's true, the women are often bitter or want attention and sexual harassment is the easiest way.

Another thing that's not talked about is reverse sexual harassment. There are many male victims of females sexually harassing them. Often, the men don't want to speak up and if they do, they're not believed. However, the military does have many high ranking women who use that rank to harass male soldiers.

Overall, the military is doing a good job of controlling the sexual harassment issue. I think making things more EQUAL in the military would curb alot more. So yes, it does happen, both ways, but doesn't go without punishment.

Sexual harrasment does happen in the military, but for what it's worth the top leadership appears to be making efforts. Whether that's really passing down to the troops is another question entirely.

I have a friend who was in the Marines during Desert Storm. Sometime while he was still in the states, I've never been entirely clear whether it was before or after his deployment, his unit underwent sensitivity training - and it involved role playing. They really did have some of the guys pretend to be women. Everything they did was uncomfortable for everyone involved.

What they learned is to avoid women at all costs. So I guess it worked.

Anyway, sexual harrasment should be reported to a commanding officer. Yours first. If that doesn't get anything done, then move up the chain of command - you, as a soldier, have the right to know that the troops around you and the officers above you have your back, in the field and on the base both.

Sexual harassment happens no matter what your profession, it's having the victims come forward that's the problem. Most females in the military(I am one) are slow to press charges or go to their command because they don't want; 1)to admit they have been victimized, or 2) cause a rift in their platoon cohesion. There are going to be hurt feelings either way, but most females would rather ignore the abuse of one or two people than to have an entire group turn on them for blowing the whistle.

its an issue because some people are just stupid. But I am in the army and we have quarterly training on sexual harrassment, equal opportuinty, and there are all kinds of outlets to report sexual harrassement, offensive language, even if you are raped and you are embarrassed, there are ways to get help and not have the entire UNIT know, you can just get medical care and counselling. The military is very concerned with protecting itself, and it provides LOTS of training to prevent this type of behavior. I have not been sexually harrassed, and I am really cute.

In the past it was problem. Now we receive a sexual harrasment briefing it seems every other month and the incidents have dropped. Its a problem everywhere it only comes out in the military just becuase of the men to women ratio.

i might wish that he would not get into any difficulty. He ought to have documented her undesirable interest and he ought to have stated it to his chain of command. as long as she would not have evidence of something different than the prank, he must be ok. He desires to observe the prank pulling via fact it could backfire. you besides could could desire to stay on your lane and not call his fellow infantrymen. i'm chuffed that he has been telling you approximately her movements, yet you are able to't and should no longer call absolutely everyone in his unit. He desires to flow via his chain of command and record issues. Having a companion do stuff like it is a actual occupation killer.

it goes on more than you can IMAGINE...i have no problem in telling my story anymore since it has become more public now...i was in the navy, many years ago...i was wanted to be a "LIFER" and retire at a young age...all my dreams of a military career were shattered...

one night i was working late in the office, i was only 20 years old...and one of my superiors took it upon himself to get inappropriate with me...i was only an E3 and he was E5 which is a big no no...he was a friend but i did not lead him on in any manner...i was a professional worker and actually didnt care to be dating anyone at the time either...funny thing is, i found out he was married after this whole mess

we were the only 2 left in the office and i had only a little bit of work left to do...he came up to me and started to touch me and say things that shouldnt have been said...i walked away calmly and went to the bathroom to regroup myself..

i came back into the office, the blinds were pulled and the lights were off...to my stupidity, i walked into the office and he shut the door behind me and wouldnt let me out...i remember falling backwards and hitting my head...i seemed to have come around and found him ontop of me with my pants off and doing things to me...he wasnt raping me, but he was definately assaulting me...i was so dazed from hitting my head that i couldnt get up..i dont know how long had passed but i remember him picking me up and saying " i know youre not going to tell anyone about this."

i said sure just so i could get away...i reported it the next day and an investigation was started...come to find out, he has been caught being inappropriate before and got caught having sex with a girl on his desk one night...it all went to an Article 32 hearing..i had to face him and testify against him...you wanna know what his punishment was...he was docked pay for 2 months, reduced in rank to E4 and was transferred out of that command...what the hell i thought..how can someone get away with that..

if i had reported it to the police, they would have arrested him and more could have happened but i had to follow policy...i am currently out of the military and that jerk is still in doing who knows what to more women...

when this happened to me, it wasnt talked about openly in fears of stirring up something with women who wanted to join..now there are groups, one which i participate in alot, the Miles Foundation in connecticut who are helping more and more people and even congress recognize that this is a growing problem and these men are getting away with it..

however, women do it too...i have only heard of 1 female who sexually harrassed a guy..but there was another case i heard of on the base we were on that a guy raped another guy...he went sent to the hardcore prison and is still there i believe...

so its more common than most think..the government has just been trying to hide it...
