The religions that don't teach judgment have for the most part. The tend to lead people to the conclusion that we are all one.

The monotheistic western religions on the other hand are perhaps more useful as sorting tools that separate us. This leads to war and hatred.

So I guess the answer to your question is some are positive, while others are negative.

Love and blessings Don

It is in peoples nature to only look after yourself to the detriment of others. If you follow most religions by what they write in there gospels. It is all about helping your fellow man and making this world a better place, so in this respect it has helped the world, just look at all the aid religious institutions give around the world. But there is an ugly side and some people turn it into a cult and skew certain part of text in there religious books to single out particular people or community's who don't share there beliefs and kill them for it. The biggest wars in history have involved religion in some way but this only reflects our own selfish nature. Almost all religions tell there followers not to kill but people still do it in the name of there God. But if religion turn people away from being selfish and give the poor hope then it must be a real Savior to them in this life and possibly the next.

Religion has brought mankind from barbarism to civilization.
Religion has made millions of saints who sacrify their lives for the benefit of other people.
Nowadays, we are so confused in our physical pleasures and their consequent diseases that we forget the lesson of selfless love taught by the reiligion of the One True God. And there is still great hope, because people of faith keep on spreading religion despite all sorts of criticism and persecution.
Religious teachings will again permeate all hearts.

Religion. No. Christ, yes! Only the transforming power of the living Lord Jesus Christ can make a person into the kind of person that God intends. "If anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new creation; the old has passed away and the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

True Christianity is not a religion. It is a personal relationship with God, through the Savior of the world, His Son, Jesus Christ.

Not religion, but a personal relationship with Jesus has helped a lot of people be better. The bonus is getting to go to heaven too.

I think that faith has helped mankind, as has the idea of karma, in it's many forms throughout most religions, mainstream or not. I think the dangerous thing is a de-secularisation of church and state, as I do not see how that can do anyone any good!

Religion has stopped lighting people on fire for saying the Earth orbits the Sun. You can't say that's not a good thing religion has done.

Religion - probably nothing-
Jesus- died for our sins. Bridged the gap between God and man.
Showed the world how to treat others and that there is more to this life than we can ever see.
Jesus- the way, the Truth, the life....

Although many wars were fought in the name of religion, humankind would have been worst off. Humanism wouldn't have been strong enough to stem the violence humans would have wrecked on each other without some spiritual umpire.
