I just got back from 3 week vacation in Puerto Rico 2 days ago. Did everything! Awesome! What kind of vacation are u looking for? I went hiking in rainforest, bathed in waterfall, Arecibo Observatory, kayaking in bioluminescent lagoon off of east coast, snorkeling at coral reefs off of flamenco beach (fish come right up to you, water is so clear you can see your toes), le lo lai festival every tuesday at the fort for $3, catamaran through islands of coast of puerto rico to St. Thomas, underground caves in camuy, tasting and tour at bacardi factory, museum hopping at ponce, paso fino horseback riding through mountain country, ate everywhere (don't be afraid of hole in the wall places they have some of the most delicious, freshest and authentic food for cheaper than touristy places...much cheaper). El Jibarito (not expensive) on Calle Sol, Old San Juan has very good PR food. Divino Bocadito(a little expensive but good) I believe on Calle Tetuan has Spaniard Tapas and a flamenco show starting at 8pm I believe. Aguaviva is also very good although a little expensive, I can't remember what street it's on (calle fortaleza?) but it is at the entrance of Old San Juan where the taxis drop you off. I can guarantee you absolutely THE best licensed tour guide on the island. He guarantees you a great time or your money back and you won't pay as much if you tell him I referred you, it's more expensive through the hotel because they referr for commission purposes so you don't always get the best. Funny I ended up giving him extra just because I felt he was worth it. It felt like we were family by the time were done. We even had dinner at his country home with his wife and kids. Not to mention the nightlife, plenty of clubbing activity - start off with El San Juan Hotel. Clubbing starts hopping after 10pm in PR. It's still rainy season but don't let that stop you. It rained every single day during my vacation for maybe 15min at a time but it was so warm and sunny after that everything dried in about 10 minutes. I didn't get to go the hot springs in coamo but I here that is nice. There is a waterpark in Aguadilla, and a native american ceremonial site in Utuado (which I also didn't get to do, didn't have a car and don't know how to drive). If you are relying on public transportation - buses are slooooowwwww. Taxis are plentiful although it'll eat up your cash. Email me for more info if youre interested. I have addresses, phone numbers, hotels, all the info still in my suitcase since I haven't had a chance to unpack yet. Can you tell I'm still psyched! Jeez! I just read what I wrote I should be hired by the PR Tourism company! Ha Ha!!

Hey! I am from, and live in PR. I recommend you stay at "The Caribe Hilton", San Juan.. The staff there is really friendly. They have a beach and 3 or 4 pools.
Be sure to visit Old San Juan. You can grab a bite at a cute little puertorrican restaurant called "El Punto".
There is A LOT of shopping.
Check out the "Cuevas de Camuy", or the Camuy caves (obviously in Camuy). Wherever you stay, you are bound to find something to do.

It all depends what are you looking forward to do. If you want to party you can stay in the San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde area. If you want to see historic sites San Juan is the place for you, but if you want to explore more of nature you can visit El Yunque in the North East, or the Camuy caves in the North West. If you want to experience calm crystal clear water and awesome snorkling go to the South West side of the island.
I am heading there in 2 weeks too, and I can't wait.
