Maximum heart rate is normally calculated as being 220 minus your age. So if you are 20 your maximum HR is 200, if you are 40 your Max HR is 180, etc.

When you do aerobic exercise your heart rate rises from your resting heart rate to perhaps 80% of your Max HR. When you stop, the speed at which your HR falls back to your resting HR is your recovery rate.
