i have a 10 year old cat - yesterday and today he started vomiting and first it was food and now it just saliva. he keeps trying to hide under the bed and every time he goes to walk he has a deep meow like he's in pain. this morning i tried to move him and he wouldn't even let me touch him - he gave me a warning growl. it seems like he has pain in his back legs but i'm not quite sure what that would have to do with him vomiting...also he is a indoor cat, any suggestion to what might be wrong? i love this cat with all my heart and am taking him to the vet tonight (although i have no idea how i'm getting him in the cat carrier as i can't touch him)

Taking him to the vet is a very good idea. Sounds like he got into a poison of some sort (Ex. Mouse poison) Take him in as soon as you can! And to get him into a cat carrier, you might need someone to help you. Take a blanket and either you or the other person distract your cat while the other person lays the blanket over the top of the cat. He's going to yowl, but it will be your best bet. Because all you have to do is scoop him up (blanket and all) and go. Good Luck!!!

This does sounds like an emergency. Try wrapping him in a towel and putting him in the carrier head first. If you have someone else to tilt the carrier up a bit it will be harder for him to get out.

If you have a chance to pick up some Rescue Remedy at a health foods store do so. It can be very useful in calming a cat who is in pain or "reluctant" to be put in a carrier. You simply shake the bottle well and apply three to four drops to the fur between the cat's ears. It is utterly benign and cannot harm your cat at all. It is always good to have on hand for emergencies such as these for yourself or any animal who is in distress.

He vomited out all the food and now it's just gastric juices that are coming up.

No suggestions as there are all sorts of things that can go wrong with a cat of that age.

I 2nd the suggestion to tell your vet it's an emergency and try to get him in sooner. You'll probably have to throw a towel over him so he won't hurt you when you try to get him into the cat carrier.

It's sounds pretty serious. Try to make sure he gets a lot of water. You should try to help him feel calm by slowly caressing his head and back. You're pretty freaked out right now, imagine how he's feeling?
Try it and just wait it out until you can take him to the vet.
As for putting him into the carrier. If you haven't built up the trust after comforting him. Get a bath towel drop it from his neck to his bottom and curl it around him, like a distant hug. If that doesn't work try his favourite food and put it in the carrier so that he can see it and smell it.
Good luck and take care.

Absolutely take him to the vet. You can throw a towel over the cat's head, grab the scruff of his neck (over the towel if necessary) with one hand and support his bottom with the other hand. Stuff him quickly but gently into the carrier. He is definitely in pain and I am thinking some kind of infection inside (kidney? stomach? Intestine?). But the sooner you get to the vet, the sooner the cat can be helped. Can't be second-guessing becuase the situation sounds serious.

Try getting a heavy towel over your cat before attempting to get him into the cat carrier. Get him to the vet asap.. and yes, think positive.
Good luck..

I think you are doing the best thing you can do, taking him to a vet. If you are really worried, I wouldn't wait, most vets can squeeze an emergancy visit into their day, most keep a couple empty appointment slots for just that reason. And try to think positive.

Taking him to the vet is your best answer. Until then I would atleast lock him up in a bathroom or a room with no carpeting. Just lay a towel down for him to sleep on, that way you dont have a mess on carpets.
