Only out of desperation yes it will make you drunk and it will make you very ill. Probably won't kill you though, but not a pleasant experience.
How do I know?
I remember back in the late 80's Michael Dukakis was a presidential candidate running for the Democrats against the elder Bush.
It was widely known that his wife Kitty was a recovering alcoholic who a few years earlier had about as nasty of an addiction battle as you can have. The story goes that she was put on home lockdown by her family with all booze removed from the house during the initial withdrawl period. So what did she do?
She finds the rubbing alcohol and guzzles it. Passes out, is rushed to the hospital and has her stomach pumped.
I hate to say this, but when I drink a particularly unpleasant tasting chaep vodka, I sometimes say "Now I know how Kitty felt" because I imagine that this is what rubbing alcohol tastes like.

Drinking rubbing alcohol is very dangerous and can cause great problems even death. at least severe stomach distress. Kitty Dukakis whose husband ran for Pres againist the first George Bush had to be hospitalized for drinking rubbing alcohol. Her drinking went out of control after her husband lost the race. A stone alcoholic. I have seen hard core alcoholics drink cough syrup or Nyquil even mouthwash for the alcohol in it, but they won't last long if they try rubbing alcohol.

you CAN drink rubbing alcohol, but it will make you sick. It has something in it to deter people from drinking it, in the days of the prohibition, people would make all sorts of spirits out of industrial ethanol, gin being the easiest and most popular. These types of alcohol will give you very bad heaches...
