You can deter a sliced apple from going brown by submerging it in water.

If you dont mind an apple tasting of lemon, you can also squeeze lemon juice on them.

Process of browning is called polyphen oloxidase. You can slow down this process by reducing the ambiant temperature, eg putting it in a fridge.

Wrapping the apple pieces in clingfilm will also reduce the rate at which the apple browns, as the amount of oxygen which comes in contact with the fruit is being reduced.

It is impossible to deter an apple from browning eventually.

When fresh fruits and vegetables are peeled or cut open, the enzyme called polyphenol oxidase (also called tyrosinase) contained in the cells is exposed to and reacts with the oxygen in the air. The reaction that occurs, which is called oxidation, is what turns the fruits and vegetables brown. The bruising seen on some fruit, such as apples and pears, is caused by the same type of reaction. If an apple is damaged by being hit or dropped, the apple's cells in that area are damaged and the enzymes are exposed to the air inside the apple, causing them to turn brown.

I put left over apple slices in water and lemon juice. Or if you don't have lemon juice, orange juice full strength will work too, but it changes the taste of the apple. Mostly, I just try to cut up only what will be eaten right away.

Lemon juice does work to an extent but gives the apples a kind of funky taste, I think.

I went to a Watkins party last night and they have most awesome tasting cinnamon and the demonstrator claimed that putting it on apples keeps them from turning. We were there for several hours and the apples, though speckled in cinnamon, were not brown at all.

If you like cinnamon you might try it. But, like I said, she claimed it was only their cinnamon because they don't grind up stems and pieces. It WAS the best tasting cinnamon I've ever had like there was sugar mixed in. I bought some.

I don't think there is any practical way of doing so. However, only the very surface goes brown so later you just need to cut a very think slice from the surface to expose a fresh, clean, non-brown edge.

and if you dont like the lemon in Apple, you can soak the Apple in water diluted with a pinch of salt.

Normally water alone will do, and the water should cover all the apple.

it's going to start browning as soon as the oxygen starts interacting with it. Lemon juice kind of helps.

put it in water if peeled. Be careful not to leave it too long though as it will soak up the water like potato. The reason it goes brown is because the air gets to it.
