Not just female dogs, and not just dogs. All animals can sense when a woman is pregnant (not just its master).

Most of them tend to become really close to you and not leave your side. I am not sure why, but I know that they can tell.

A neighbor of mine had a cat that never goes to anyone. Hates everyone, and that included me. Until I was pregnant. He would sit right on my stomach, it was crazy.

And dogs NEVER stopped smelling my stomach.

I think dogs in general can tell. At least our lab could. I noticed right before I found out I was pregnant, our black lab became very protective of me. He wasn't so much before unless he thought someone was hurting me (He does that for any female) but it was almost like he was guarding me. Now, when he thinks someone's hurting the baby (my sister in law was playing with her and she was squealing), he tries to get between them. When she cries, he goes over to her and stays by her until I get to her. It's amazing what dogs just seems to know.

They seem to know. They can smell changes in your body on a hormonal level. I once met a cancer dog: a little beagle who could smell tumours. If he kept nosing you in a particular spot, that always meant there was cancer present.

I think so. Mine won't leave me alone. Follows me everywhere. Sleeps outside my door, is always at least somewhere where I'm in her sight. Barks at everything, everyone who she thinks might step onto our property. Doesn't like to play so much outside, no matter how nice the weather.

They can smell the change in hormones your new body is producing; so they know something is different about you.
