Everybody does. If they don't there's something mightily wrong with their digestive systems. Doesn't matter if you are the queen, the pope, the president or some beggar, the process is just the same. During digestion the body creates gases as the digestible material passes through the body. Some of these are methane based and some sulphur based, hence the smell, and the strength of the smell is based on the sulphur content. Normally you should fart at least 15 times in any 24 hour period, including when you sleep. Naturally diet can play a part in how much you let go and how strong they are. Best advice is to keep away from, vegetarians when they drop one. Certain foods, like pulses, (peas and beans), green vegetables of the brassica family (sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips and swede) are notorious for their aromatic production so take care when eating these.
Also when you swallow air is included so unless you burp it out this also has to travel the digestive tract to be released.
Etiquette would have you fart away from other people if possible as the sound and smell may offend.
I believe that the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip, farted rather loudly in Buckingham Palace one day. The queen said,

Everybody farts! Its the body's way of getting rid of excessive wind!! Even animals fart, have you never smelt a doggy fart?

I have heard that the BMW 7 series will actually filter out their farts. Wich to me is a lot better than a car that parkes itself!
