They say that you burn around 500 extra calories to produce the milk. I breast fed with both my kids.

when you breast feed your body uses calories to make the milk so that its very healthy for your child, its not a dumb question. And the with the breast pump it does the same thing. so Just know that everything yuo eat goes into your milk and it all goes to the baby, so breast feed as long as you can, or as long as you feel comfortable!!

Your body uses extra colories to make the breast milk but you need to eat this extra too. Right at the start as well feeding makes your tummy cramp which helps the womb contract back to normal

Do you mean breast pumps?
You lose weight because it burns extra calories, not sure if expressing gives the same results though, I guess it might- I think that the milk production itself is what uses the calories...hmmm, never thought about that!

First of your body uses loads of calories producing milk and secondly when you are actually breastfeeding it makes the uterus contract which can be very painful at times but it strengthens all the muscles and snaps the stomach back into shape.

Your body's metabolism is higher and your body burns more calories when it is making milk. That's why it is encouraged that you eat small meals more often and keep yourself hydrated while nursing. My doctor told me that every time you nurse you should drink a glass of water to help your body replenish the liquid that it just gave out. I wish losing weight was always that easy!

hey be careful though as others said you burn calories producing the milk
but comfort eaters like me feel tired eat more ,get fatter and some womens bodies hold fat-me,me,me-and as you sit and feed the baby you aren't moving around
it becomes a vicious circle of tired-eat
tired-eat.....then end up having to work very hard to lose weight

During pregnancy your body lays down 'supplies' of fat in anticipation of having to breastfeed. If you don't breastfeed these 'supplies' need to be shifted some other way, ie diet and exercise. A breast pump will go someway towards helping shift this fat, but they are not as effective as a baby.

Well, I didn't for a start!! But apparantly you burn calories losing the milk, and your stomach muscles contract making them stronger.
