SUMMARY
Dental insurance is best applied at an early age and preferably without ‘pre-existing’ conditions. Children are covered by state provisions whereas privately obtained cover is costly, often beyond the reach of average income persons in Chicago. In agreement, is the Orthodontist as mentioned below. – redun..

Generally people can't afford dental insurance. Under state insurance, many children can get dental insurance. Our school has mobile dentists come in twice a year because we have a lot of students living in poverty.

I could join a dental plan but I chose not to. After paying for my daughter's braces, our dental needs are minor.

I do recommend Dr. Kent Kopinski. He is wonderful!

We have a wonderful dentist that came in on a Sunday of 4th of July weekend to look at my daughter's teeth because she had a bike accident when she was 7. He didn't even charge us. He said we would be paying enough later. She had two sets of braces to correct her teeth after that and we paid a small fortune to the orthodontist. We were thinking about getting dental insurance when she was a teenager, never expecting braces at age 7. And insurances don't cover pre-exisiting conditions so after that it wasn't worth it to get dental insurance.

Only half the teachers I know get dental insurance, the other half can't afford the payments.
