I have a platform bed that attaches to a storgae headboard that is 2 feet deep by 6 feet across and a 6 drawer dresser. I need to come up with a weight for a claim with my insurance company.

You could estimate each component. There are tables out there for s4s lumber that would give it's wieght per linear foot.

You could rent a scale from somewhere (hardware, produce, industrial) that would allow you to physically wiegh the bed, but I think that's more hassle than its worth.

Is it handmade or was it manufacutred? If it was manufactured, find the model number/company on the bed and call them. They would have this info on hand for shipping purposes.

Hope this was helpful.

Seriously, I doubt the insurance company is going to be too concerned with the weight. It's probably a formality or one of those "standard" questions on a form. You'd be surprised by how close you can come by estimating. If it's solid wood it will weigh more than pine or particle board. I don't know what damage you've incurred, but the insurance company should be looking at having to replace the items, or pay to have them repaired. Either way I believe you're entitled to have a professional (paid for by the insurance company and of your choosing) come out (not a company adjuster) and give you an estimate of repair. He would be able to tell you the weight also.

Try to lift it, then guess.
