That speaker first of all probably can't actually hurt your ears and hearing. Even though it isn't a subwoofer, the volume of the treble, you know, the highs, mids, and lows in vibrations can distort the way you hear. If you've ever been to a concert and have been fortunate enough to sit right in front of the speakers, you're listening to about 130db depending on the type of music. That's like standing next to a fighter plane while it takes off. That is the reason why you see the traffic controllers wearing ear plugs. For speakers with 40watts, it would take years, if not decades of pounding music to lose hearing, so there's nothing to worry about.

Well, you have to break it down to two categories. Bass heads and audiophiles.
Bass heads - 75%
Audiophiles - 0%
There's a difference between the two as to listening preference.

it depends on how loud it's turn it up.
If you do turn it above like 90 decibels, it could give you hearing loss in the future. It doesn't always effect you right away.

i believe i have lost some of my hearing due to being a DJ i also have a huge system in my car but i think its from DJ'ing and going to clubs concerts and raves.
