Most employers vary, check your contract terms and conditions or speak to your HR advisor. Generally speaking it should be 26weeks but this can be incresed to 39weeks. The web site below will tell you more.

To be honest with you the whole maternity rights and the legal framework is such an in depth topic that its nigh on impossible to answer briefly because there are so many things that the length of maternity leave depends ie how long you've worked at the company, the companies policy towards maternity leave and so on. The best thing I can tell you to do is to look on www.adviceguide.org.uk. This will explain all your rights and responsibilities. I hope this helps.

As a general rule, maternity leave is approx 6 weeks. Trust me, it won't be enough. You will find it very difficult to leave your baby to the hands of a sitter or daycare.
Now, many employers are giving maternity leave to fathers and to couples who addopt. More and more business are going back to "family" values and holding that sacred. This is a wonderful thing.
Enjoy every day you have with your new bundle.
Remember, this 6 weeks is just a general rule of thumb. Many companies have not joined the band-wagon of holding true to this. Some companies have given more. It is about as individual as people. I know in IA - the law will support 6 weeks.

Im assuming from your name you are in the uk.

You are allowed 1 year off you work and are entitlted to exactly the same position after this time.

The first 6 months are covered by stat mat pay (around £102 a week) and most employees conrtibute to this for the firs bit. EG I got full pay for 10 weeks then went down to statutary pay. My sisters work gave her 90% pay for 8 weeks so it vary's from company to company.

After the 6 months you get nothing but your employer had to keep your job open for a further 6 months.

This may be changing soon though but as it stands the now thats your lot!

I would suggest to contact your HR dept and also find out from citizens advice. There are a certain amount of weeks by law that you can take.
I know where I work, you have to be in the job a year to avail of maternity benefit. All companies are different. Some have better options than others.
Good luck

Maternity leave is 6 months with pay and you can request another 6 months off from the company. Its at their discretion and you won't get paid for it.

In the United States, you can get up to 12 weeks unpaid off per year for family issues (ie birth of baby). Some companies allows you to use vacation/sick time during those weeks. I'll planning on taking 12 weeks off and using my vac/sick time to pay for all of it.

Maternity leave has always been 6 months unless your company policy states otherwise.......why not ask someone who has been there a while or ask your supervisor or someone in personnel.........

if you have been working there for a year it should be 26 weeks paid (6weeks@90% salary and 20 weeks @£108 per week) then another 26 weeks unpaid leave. that is what it was at my work when i started my leave 18weeks ago.
