I want to keep it in the Mardi Gras cajun/creole type theme but I know my son won't eat anything spicy or that he thinks looks "gross" and probably his friends won't either. It's an evening party so I have to feed them something dinner-like without resorting to pizza but preferably finger foods so they can snack while having fun.

I don't want much, do I???

How about something like pigs in the blanket or mini corndogs. If you make the pigs in the blanket yourself, maybe you can dye the dough mardi gra colors.
Try having different color drinks. Maybe like grape juice or soda, lemon lime soda or lemonade, and green kool aid or something. I mean, try to mix it up but have it fun for them. Have games and many treats.
Have crackers/chips and dips.
They will have a great time if you take the time to have the things they like available.

I few years ago I was privileged to visit the Claiborn (sp) congregation in New Orleans and I went out in Service with them. They told me they do not even go out in Service during Mardi Gras because many people view it as a day you can do ANYTHING (including murder) and be forgiven with a pristine clean slate by praying for forgiveness when the festivities are over. Witnesses of Jehovah would never take part in such a celebration.

How about red beans and rice? Does not have to be spicy....heck make it rice, beans, weenies. Keep them all seperated so picky kiddos can have what they like. How about cupcakes in the colors for dessert? For drinks, have "Hurricanes"....Hawaiian punch with fruit garnish. Just some ideas.

No offense, but why wouldn't want to have the things your son would want since he is picky to start with and it is his 10th B'day ??? You are making it your party and difficult to begin with....Kid like Pizza (adults) too..........make lunch meat sandwiches and cut them into 3 sections..like finger food..........bowl of chips,, bowl of pretzels,,,,,,,,have a vegetable tray with dip..........peanuts on the side, unless someone alergic.............10 years old is not good to eat spicy foods......most don't like it......Good luck and have fun....Happy b'day to son!
