Does anyone know any anti-depressants (and better, if it helps anxiety problems, too) that DOES NOT use the serotonin and dopamine?

My body reacts too sensitive to those serotonin and dopamine using medications.

I have asked my docter about this, but it seems he does not know anything other than the above.

If you suggest me one, I will ask for his opinion on that one.

Please help me, and thank you for your kindness.

Perhaps some of your older antidepressants would work such as Luvox. You could always call the Pharmacist to save the money just to find out if there are other ones available. Luvox is an older drug for depression which might not have serotonin.

MAO inhibitors were used for many years, and they are still helpful for some people.

Often with the serotonin and dopamine affecting drugs, it's a matter of finding the right one. They all work slightly differently.

It's about anti-depressives that are being developed.

There are also some "natural" remedies. In some cases, a vitamin B supplement is very helpful - it must contain all the different types of vitamin B. Also, St. John's Wort is commonly used in Europe to treat depression, and some people find it very effective - however, I do believe that St. John's Wort works on serotonin, so this may not be the correct herb for you. You could ask your physician about the vitamin B supplements, but if you choose to try something herbal you should probably consult an expert in alternative therapies. ("Alternative therapies" is the catchphrase used by the western medicine establishment to include treatments that aren't - well, western. It includes herbs, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and many other therapies.)

Good luck to you. I've been on Prozac for 20 years - practically since it was put on the market - and I know it saved my life. Addictive? Maybe in the same way that insulin is addictive for a diabetic, or high blood pressure medication is addictive for someone with hypertension. I say, if your body has a chemical imbalance, and drugs can help return the body to a healthy, balanced state - use them. It's better than the alternative.

You have my best wishes for improved health and happiness.

I'm on cymbalta which helps your levels of serotonin and dopamine. I'm also using klonopin which helps random bouts of anxiety during the day. that really helps. For night time anxiety and insomnia, my doctor gave me seroquel. Ask your doctor about these :)

Bupropion (Welbutrin) raises neoprenephrine levels so you feel more awake, alert, and active............. The reason people say its difficult to discontinue antidepressants is because this is a lifelong chemical imbalance. When someone discontinues medication, chemicals go back to their imbalanced state and it throws them into another depression, possibly deeper than before........... Your body does not balance its brain chemicals. Its nothing to be ashamed of anymore than high blood pressure or any other disease. Its not a weakness and you cannot snap out of it anymore than someone can snap out of diabetes.
