I got a 5 1/5 week old girl Maltese pup from a reputable breeder in Australia. I don't know much about the breed and stuff. I need help. How much do I need to walk and groom her? I don't have a lot of time to play with her because I am only 20 and I hang with my friends a lot. When she is older, I can take her for a max. of 20 minute walk every 2 days.

I am going to buy another Maltese puppy and breed them - is this a good idea? I need some professional breeders to give me advice on breeding them. I don't want it for the money, that's just a 'topping' on the cake really.

OK so, all I have is a small crate for her, a few toys and some food and a collar. What else do I need? How often do I groom her?

Remember, I am still young, I live on my own in a small apartment, so, I can not groom her for long.

ALL COMMENTS APPRECIATED.

By the way, my puppy's name is Daisy-Zoe. Cute name? Please rate it out of 5 =)

Also, I am thinking of the names (a) Jared-Lee, (b) Nathan-Ben, (c) Sam-David, (d) Isaac-Greg or (e) Kailan-Alexander for my next MALE puppy.

Rate each out of 5?

I am grown up, I have owned a chinese hairless crested dog before but it died at age 4.

I know that they need grooming, love , care and exercise for the Maltese to be happy.
I am grown up enough to breed the Maltese, I am sure I can further the breed, I am not in the breeding for money. Like I said, just topping on the cake.

The placw I got it from said they were reputable and had over 20 references but I did not have time to check them out because I had 3 friends parties to go to and a wedding and a 'lunch-date' with a friend. That took up a lot of time.

Also, any other suggestions for my new MALE puppy's name would be appreciated. ***MUST BE 2 NAMES (i.e: John-Christopher).

Oh and is it true that dogs need a simple name and can;t understand it if it is too long? If so, would Conner-Vince be an OK name? I have decided that is an ADORABLE name for a male puppy :)

Still no comments on the names.

I can not stop partying for a dog. I love it but hey, I love my friends! I need help on how to QUICKLY house train a puppy. I refuse to have to clean up it's poop and wee because it ca't hold it in until I get home in the mornings.

Also, if I leave the puppy with food and water, will it be OK for a day or two to be alone in the apartment? I am planning on staying at my friends' place for a day or two because her dad just died and she want's to be at her house but needs company.

Would it be better to bring the dog?

I know a bit about the breed, I did read a book about dogs but that was when I was like.. 18. I'm cool and have heaps of friends and I have great taste in fashon so, how hard can it be to look after a dog or two and some babies?

If I don't get a Male maltese, I will just maybe buy a different breed (I have the money to do it) that is easier to look after and aren't so up-tight about their grooming needs and stuff.

My chinese crested (Tallulah-Belle) died because we went on a holiday and left her home alone because our EX-family friend said they would come and feed her everyday and decided to stay home and not feed her so it wasn't our fault.

Ok i just did some, oh what's it called...? RESEARCH on the maltese. I know what it's health problems are --- YAY!!

To all who think I can't take my dog for a walk, I will take her today for one!!! But only for about 10 mins because I am going out to my friend, Jane's, house because she is having a BBQ with a few friends (can't wait)!!!

Oh anf how do i clean her eyes? Like what with... soap? Will a earbud do? With some hand lotion on it? I have a ton of body lotion if I can use that on her? KIDDING!!!! Don't get mad. Do I just use some normal hand soap or just water or alcohol (HUGE supply of that in my draws).

You really need to grow up.
First of all, no good breeder would sell a 5.5 week old puppy. They should still be with the mom and litter mates until 8 weeks.

Secondly, you clearly do NOT know enough about dogs to breed. If you do not even know how to groom that dog, breeding should be the furthest thing from your mind!!!!!!!! The great breeder should have covered that.

You clearly do not want to give enough time to the puppy, so getting another should be out of the question. 20 min every other day is just stupid. Even at 20, you are old enough to be responsible for what you do. You got a puppy, you stop hanging out with the friends so much so you can take care of the dog.

I have no idea why just because you live in your own apartment, you cannot groom the dog for long. That is just as stupid as the rest of this.

Two words......

GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, and the names are BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I got a 5 1/5 week old girl Maltese pup from a reputable breeder in Australia" No reputable breeder would sell a puppy that young. They would wait until they are at least 10 weeks old. Dogs that young have so many socialization problems it's unreal. Make sure you take that dog every place you go so he knows people and other dogs. Why would you get a dog shipped to you?? Don't you know how many shipping problems can accure?

"How much do I need to walk and groom her? I don't have a lot of time to play with her because I am only 20 and I hang with my friends a lot. When she is older, I can take her for a max. of 20 minute walk every 2 days." They need to go outside at least every half hour when potty training. A twenty minute walk every 2 days will not be enough. A twenty minute walk every half hour though, would be perfect. Can you not take her when you hang out with your friends? Can they not come to your house?

"I am going to buy another Maltese puppy and breed them - is this a good idea? I need some professional breeders to give me advice on breeding them. I don't want it for the money, that's just a 'topping' on the cake really." If you are going to have trouble keeping one, why bring more into the world? They would be neglected like your new puppy. Perhaps you should rethink this whole dog thing?

Will you have at the very least $150 for at least four visits? All dogs need vaccines and health care. Will you have the funds for emergency health care? Puppies can cost a ton of money for food, toys, and other health needs. It takes me about an hour every 5-6 weeks to groom my 11 pound cocker. Would you have that time???

Various people here are so correct, try a goldfish, or better yet, just give up until you have more time and patience for a living breathing thing. I'm 20 and my animals come before anything and everything in this world.

I'm very sorry but the breed you have selected is too intelligent for you, the best thing to do is to find a better home for this poor animal before it dies from neglect or you get it taken away by the animal protection people. Yes Maltese are adorable, but they are VERY sociable and intelligent. You cannot expect this poor dog to pine away in a crate while you are out partying. She needs to be walked EVERY day for at least 20 minutes and groomed EVERY day or she will get matts in her fur. You need to be around at LEAST 16 out of 24 hours or she will not be able to be housebroken. One last comment: the reputable breeder: NOT!!! if they were you would not have gotten this pup,

additional: I wonder why your other dog died so young? My last dog lived to 15 years old. Maybe neglect?

Additional: OMG!!!! Are you a complete Moron? No pet can be left home alone for that long. Where do you live, I will come and get her and give her a good home.

ok so here goes: I have been reading your questions and additional comments and the comments of all the other people telling you the same thing I've been thinking, you do not need to have a goldfish, let alone a dog!!! Apparently you are too self involved to care for anyone but yourself so you need to give the dog back to the breeder or a different family who actually has time to take care of a puppy and grow up. Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but I think breeders are dumb anyway. There are so many mixed dogs out there that are FREE to good homes b/c people don't know how to get their animals fixed. Breeders just create more problems. Follow the advise of all the smart people telling you to forget this, go to the mall, get yourself some clothes and GROW UP!!!!

I'm sorry, but I think you're too busy for a dog right now. All dogs ...and especially puppies...need alot of time an attention. When you bring a pet into your home, you must have the time to walk, play, groom, etc. the pet. This should be your top priority. And I wouldn't get another just yet...or anytime soon...for breeding, because it just doesn't sound like you are ready for all of the responsibility. I'm sure this isn't the answer you want, but this is how I really feel. Good luck.

Please take it back to the breeder, this is so cruel what I'm reading you're doing, I can't believe this. You're clearly not mature and responsable enough to take care of a living being. What we're they thinking of giving a 6 week old puppy away to a person so irresponsable. If you lived close to me, I would take it away. I have a small dog as well, I walk it four times a day, two of these walks are 45 minutes or more. I groom it every week and now he's shedding hair, twice a week. This is a living creature that needs care and attention. This is not a toy.

First of all a "reputable breeder" would not sell a six week old puppy. And I don't want to be mean but I sure wouldn't sell a breeding quality puppy to a twenty year old who can not seem to find the time to own a dog much less breed her. My advice to you is take the puppy back to your 'breeder' maybe then she'll have a chance a a good life.

*Banging head against wall repeatedly*.....where do I begin?!

Why didn't you read up on puppies BEFORE getting one? Or do your precious friends soak up so much of your time that you just can't find the time to do something so old fashioned as picking up a book?

No "reputable" breeder would sell a 5 1/2 week old puppy, that's simply ridiculous. A REPUTABLE breeder waits until the puppies are AT LEAST 8 weeks old before placing them in homes. On top of that, I can't imagine a "reputable" breeder selling ANY animal to someone as clueless as you seem to be.

NO, it is not a good idea to breed them, you don't even know how to care for them!

You can't groom her for long? What is WRONG with you?

GO GET YOURSELF A DOLL.

(You said all comments appreciated, but I highly doubt that's true for some of these. Hey, act like a dingbat, you'll get treated like a dingbat.)

And you refuse to clean up dog poop and pee? Then I guess your "own apartment" is going to be pretty nasty. Dogs have tiny bladders......and tiny dogs have even tinier bladders. You are one selfish little twit. And since you're pissing and moaning about it....the names suck. Seriously, they sound like something out of a Ken & Barbie story.

I am really hoping this is some kind of stupid joke..You are treating your new puppy like a stuffed toy...You are required to groom her, feed her, walk her, and just spend time with her. But everybody already said that, so...find this poor little dog a good home and when you decide to stop partying and grow up, maybe you can get a goldfish!

all dogs (any animal) you get for a pet is a big responsibility. So what if you're just 20.I'm 21 and I have two cats, a ferret, and a dog.If you can't take care of a dog then how can you take care of yourself?Try this send the puppy back to the breeder and get your money back, then get a plant and if after a year if the plant is still alive, then do some research on different breeds of dogs, figure out if you're still too young to take care of a living breathing thing and then get back to us .
