Personally, I think as long as YOU Like it there is no such thing as a decorating "mistake" per se. There are definitely color theories and ideas about how to design a room with color but if it works for you, don't worry about what other people think or feel.
However, if you want a more neutral scheme, I would keep all of the frames the same - preferably Black with the Taupe walls - it will look very "French/Parisian".
If you want to incorporate the gold, I think that tI would use is sparingly - the throw pillows are a good idea or even an area rug possibly but even though Gold is said to be "coming back" I still think it looks bad.

Decorators often say to stay with the same frame throughout the room. It's ok to mix and match to a certain degree, but you don't want a hodge-podge of frames. All-black frames are easy to find and match, however it sounds like you have things under control. The main thing to remember is: "go with what YOU like" in the end. Of course you might want to take into consideration a little bit the opinions of whoever else is living with you. I try picturing in my mind what it will look like and what I'm planning on doing here or there, basically the end picture or what it would look like with certain things in place. I find it's best to go with what you like but to listen to ideas from other people because they may give you new insight regarding something you didnt' think about.

The gold color is fine. Why not add throw pillows with golds and blacks in them to bring the room together more. I would personally keep all of the frames in black, this way it won't seem overwhelming with your clock and hardwear in gold. Or you could throw in a few more black accessories and keep the gold and black frames.

The gold will be very nice in there! You want at least three colors in a decor. Don't forget some greenery, too. (Even if it's fake) It adds life and softens harsh wood and corners. A fake green bush or fern in a basket on the floor in front of an exposed electrial outlet is great, or a ficus tree in a corner. Happy decorating!

I agree with most everyone else. Sounds great! I think a bit of red/orange would be nice. pillows, rugs & etc., these are things that can be easily (& inexpensively) changed if you like.
Also, depending on your window treatments, you could add a scarf of the 3rd color to bring it together a little better.

I agree with the other individuals here...you have a perfect trio of colors...Three=the magic number. Throw pillows, candle accents, lamps, throws, etc would set off the beautiful colors and create the comfortable feeling everyone desires! Great job!!!

Sounds to me you got it under control. Yes it is ok to mix and match. Look at this way are you comfortable with it or are you doing it for someone else? You are the one that's has to live there. Be happy with what you want. Everything does'nt have to match, or to be perfect. Find what makes you happy. Live for yourself, not what other people think.

If you like it, go with it. If you don't, change something.
Decorating is about pleasing yourself not your visitors.
